Tongyeong brunch café with squid ink risotto: Brown Hands Tongyeong

In short

Brown Hands Tongyeong is an ocean-view brunch restaurant and café on the second floor of the Tongyeong Concert Hall building in Tongyeong, Gyeongnam. Two couples and their in-laws shared squid ink risotto at 19,000 won, burrata cheese tomato pasta at 20,000 won, Margherita pizza at 24,000 won and a pork cutlet at 16,000 won, and all four dishes were satisfying. Even the family living in Tongyeong had never heard of Brown Hands Tongyeong, which makes it a great sea-view Western restaurant for a group meal.

My in-laws live in Tongyeong, so I go there often, but this time we decided to actually treat it like a trip! My husband and I went looking for a brunch café with a good view, and this is what we found!

Both my husband and my in-laws, who've lived in Tongyeong their whole lives, were like, "wait, there was a place like this in Tongyeong??" and were completely won over. ❤️

Walking up from the parking lot, you get a full view of the Tongyeong ocean the whole way, so I was already in a great mood before even stepping inside.

Inside, the ceilings are high and the walls are floor-to-ceiling glass, so you can take in the whole Tongyeong sea view from your seat.

Steak, pizza, pasta — totally recommend this as a Western-style restaurant in Tongyeong!

They also sell a nice variety of wine.

Inside Brown Hands Tongyeong: restaurant zone and café zone

Brown Hands Tongyeong has a very spacious interior, split into a restaurant side and a café side. Both zones felt wide open, so I left feeling really refreshed.

Even on a weekday morning it was busy. (My husband, who's from Tongyeong, kept saying, "how did I not know about this place... why didn't you bring me here sooner...")

You could tell every detail of the interior was thought through. Maybe because it's inside the concert hall, the design felt sophisticated, and there were quite a few foreign guests too.

How to order at Brown Hands Tongyeong, plus tumbler and coupon discounts

You order and pay at the front counter, café-style! Since they run both brunch and café together, it seems the front counter handles all orders. There were four of us — my in-laws and my husband and I — and we ordered four dishes to share.

If you bring your own tumbler when ordering a drink, you get ₩1,000 off! There was also an extra discount for verifying a run, among other promotions. Haha.

They also had a Brown Hands stamp coupon — one stamp per main dish ordered — so it seemed like it would fill up fast.

Since we ordered four dishes, we got four stamps at once — here's how it looked.

Coupon with four stamps stamped in

Squid ink risotto, 19,000 won — the surprise favorite

Squid ink risotto is ₩19,000. Honestly I didn't expect much from a risotto, but it ended up being the dish everyone picked as the best. It was moist, with bits of squid throughout, cooked with squid ink.

Burrata cheese tomato pasta, 20,000 won

Burrata cheese tomato pasta is ₩20,000. The sauce was really delicious, and the burrata cheese on top was genuinely high-quality — it melted in my mouth. The pasta itself wasn't just one type of noodle either; it was a mix of two or three kinds, which made it even better!

Both dishes were so good! The risotto was less heavy than I expected and had a nice savory flavor, while the pasta was bright and savory too. If you like tomato pasta, this one is a guaranteed hit...!

Margherita wood-fired pizza, 24,000 won

Margherita pizza is ₩24,000. It's an authentic Italian wood-fired pizza, so the crust was chewy with that smoky wood-fired aroma — really good. I ate it right down to the crust.

The burrata cheese tomato pasta, squid ink risotto, and Margherita pizza were all delicious. Both my in-laws enjoyed everything too, which made me really happy >_< 🙂

Slices of Margherita pizza, easy to share among several people

It was great for sharing among several people, and the classic tomato-and-cheese combo kept things clean and tasty. It also paired really well with the other dishes.

Pork cutlet plate served with salad and fruit

Pork cutlet, 16,000 won, with generous sides

Surprisingly, the pork cutlet we ordered on a whim was also good. At ₩16,000 I thought, hmm, that's a bit pricey... but it came with salad, fruit, and both a cheese cutlet and a loin cutlet, so the portion was generous. Nice to be able to taste a bit of everything.

The cutlet was thick, crispy, and delicious — no complaints there!

Is Brown Hands Tongyeong worth it for brunch, pasta and the sea view?

Brunch, pasta, and an ocean-view café — Brown Hands Tongyeong nails all three, so I highly, highly recommend it!!!!! I stayed one night at the Tongyeong Stanford Hotel and had this delicious lunch here, haha.

There are discount promotions too!

  • 20% off for firefighters, police, and military
  • 10% off for Tongyeong residents every Wednesday
