On a weekend or holiday trip to Seoul Land in Gwacheon, it's often hard to think of a good place nearby to grab a solid meal.
When you're going with kids or as a family, parking needs to be easy and the food needs to be clean, so meeting both conditions is trickier than it sounds.
That's when I found out about Deo Chadol, a Gwacheon restaurant right near Seonbawi Station, and went in with high hopes.
It's a really short drive from Seoul Land or Seoul Grand Park too, so it fit perfectly into the day's route.

Arriving at the restaurant, the bright, modern look hit me right from the entrance, and I felt good just walking in.
The building's exterior was neatly kept, and there was plenty of parking out front and around it, so there was zero stress about coming by car.
Once I opened the door and stepped inside, the ceilings were high and everything was spotlessly maintained, making it very pleasant.
The tables were spaced generously and seating was ample, so it seemed like a great pick for group get-togethers or family outings.
Ordering the lunch special set by tablet at Deo Chadol
Sitting down and browsing through the tablet menu, the lineup was really well put together.
Since I came right at lunchtime, I picked the duck jeyuk (spicy stir-fried duck) set from the lunch specials.
Alongside the main dish, I added the assorted seafood egg soup and a cold drink to round things out.

After ordering, I checked out the self-bar set up on one side of the restaurant and was impressed all over again by how clean it was.
The wrap vegetables like lettuce and perilla leaves were so fresh they felt like they'd just been picked from the field.
The standard side dishes — japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), cucumber salad, salad, and braised beef — were seasoned just right, so I kept reaching for them even before the main dish arrived.
The unlimited self-bar, free to help yourself to, was kept spotless, so it was easy to use throughout the meal.
How did the duck jeyuk set taste?
A little while later, the main dish, the duck jeyuk set, arrived sizzling on a hot plate and looking amazing.
The duck's distinct savory flavor and the sweet-spicy sauce came together, and the smell alone got my appetite going.
The meat quality was really good — chewy yet tender with absolutely no gamey smell.
Wrapping a piece of duck in fresh lettuce with a bit of garlic and the special sauce made for a perfect bite.
Is the assorted seafood egg soup worth adding?
The assorted seafood egg soup served alongside the duck jeyuk also delivered more presence than I expected.
Served hot in a stone pot, the seafood gave the broth a deep, refreshing flavor, and the softness of the egg was excellent.
After the spicy duck, a spoonful of the egg soup completely tamed the heat and settled my stomach nicely.
With savory doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and warm rice on the side too, it felt like a proper full spread.
