Goyang Japanese restaurant solo window seat sushi lunch: Min Cook

Today I'm sharing a lunch spot I visited near Hwajeong Station! I was wondering if there was a place I could get to without much hassle even though my work lunch break isn't very long, and since I was craving sushi, I went solo to Min Cook Dasima haha.

Where is Min Cook Dasima, and what are the hours and parking?

Min Cook Dasima is on the 2nd floor of Jinsol Plaza, 37 Hwasin-ro 260beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 16:50, and last order at 14:30 and 20:30. It's closed on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. There's no parking at the building itself, but you can use the E-mart across the street — if you tell them you parked there when you pay, you get 1 hour free.

It's about a 3-minute walk from Hwajeong Station Exit 1, so it wasn't much of a hassle to go for a work lunch.

Taking the elevator up to the 2nd floor, unit 207, the entrance to the restaurant comes right into view, and there's a Hundred-Year Store certification plaque hanging by the entrance, which made me think, 'this place is older than I expected.'

Looking it up, I found out this restaurant opened in 2001. That means it's been in the same spot for over 23 years — and probably because of that, it's been selected as a Hundred-Year Store certified by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and it's also appeared on the Blue Ribbon Survey and Goyang City's list of recommended restaurants! Since it's been around that long, I figured it must have some real skill behind it, and my expectations went up even more haha.

Inside Min Cook Dasima: window seats for one, easy for solo diners

Min Cook Dasima has a separate counter for solo diners by the window, so it's a comfortable layout for eating alone. As soon as I opened the door, I felt the place was bigger than I expected.

There were quite a few tables for groups too, and overall the seats were spaced out generously so it didn't feel cramped.

In particular, there's a separate counter by the window for solo diners, so even someone like me who came alone for lunch could eat comfortably without feeling self-conscious.

As a place known as a sushi spot near Hwajeong Station, customers kept coming in even though it was a weekday lunch hour.

Ordering is done via a QR code placed on each table, so it wasn't difficult at all even going alone,

and flipping through the menu, I saw that besides the sushi set, there were various other options like a sashimi rice bowl or a soba set. I thought I'd like to try those next time :)

What comes with the sushi set at Min Cook Dasima?

Min Cook Dasima's sushi set comes with 9 pieces of sushi along with salad, braised fish, steamed egg, tempura, and soup. Since I didn't have much time for lunch, I ordered the sushi set as a safe choice. Not long after ordering, the first thing to arrive was a mini porridge,

which was warm and soft, gently warming up my stomach before the real meal. I actually prefer having a bit of this kind of mini porridge rather than starting a meal super hungry!

After waiting a bit while eating the porridge, the main spread came out all at once — 9 pieces of sushi along with salad, braised fish, steamed egg, and tempura, all present without exception, so my first thought was that it was a pretty solid spread for eating alone.

The steamed egg had a soft texture that jiggled tenderly when I scooped it with a spoon,

and the braised fish was salty-savory without being overly sweet, which went well with the sushi.

The tempura was crispy outside and moist inside, perfect for eating between bites of sushi, and the soup was clean and not too strong, good for calming your stomach every so often haha.

Is the sushi set enough for one person?

Honestly, I didn't expect to get this full from just one sushi set. Eating through the porridge, sushi, tempura, and soup one by one in order, I ended up feeling quite full haha.

The portion wasn't lacking for the price, and it was a decent choice for a lunch near Hwajeong Station haha.

Tips before you visit Min Cook Dasima

Min Cook Dasima seems like a good option when you want a quiet solo sushi meal during lunch near Hwajeong Station. However, since the break time is from 15:00 to 16:50, you might come away empty-handed if you go at an awkward time, so I'd recommend checking this ahead of your visit. There's no parking at the building itself, but since there's an E-mart in front, it shouldn't be a big inconvenience!
