Bakery café in Ulju, Ulsan with mountain views: MUG (카페 먹)

I visited MUG (카페 먹) while looking for a spacious bakery café around Eonyang in Ulsan. The mountain views through the full-height windows and the high ceilings stood out, and there was plenty to look around, from the bread displays to the outdoor tables.

Where is MUG, and how is the parking?

The address is 90 Hyangsandagae-ro, Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, South Korea (울산 울주군 상북면 향산다개로 90). The original post lists daily opening hours of 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with last orders at 7:30 PM.

The parking lot was large, with plenty of spaces. After parking, I followed the signs up to the main entrance. The landscaping along the way suited the building nicely.

What is on display at the entrance?

Inside the entrance was a space that felt like a small art gallery. Apparently, the works change periodically. I had a quick look around and noticed a guestbook with messages from other visitors.

There was also a station for printing smartphone photos. After briefly browsing the exhibition space, I headed into the bakery area.

How much bread was left late on the weekend?

There was a wide variety of bread. I arrived late on a weekend, though, so some of the displays had gaps. Even with what remained, I spent quite a while deciding what to choose.

You picked up tableware at the entrance, then selected the bread you wanted.

While browsing the bread, I also noticed the outdoor tables.

About 10 minutes after we ordered, sogeumppang (salt bread) came out. I wished I had waited a little longer, but we had a meal planned afterward, so I did not get any extra.

What coffee and bakery items did we order, and what did they cost?

We took our chosen bakery items to the counter and ordered drinks with them. There were signature drinks, but we chose an iced Americano and an iced latte.

Naver Pay facial recognition payments were also available. They were using a La Marzocco coffee machine.

At the time of our visit, the iced Americano was ₩5,500 and the iced latte was ₩6,000. I enjoyed the coffee with our bakery items.

We ordered lamington cake for ₩6,500 and an injeolmi (soybean-coated rice cake) roll for ₩6,400. As we ate, I also noticed the generous strawberry jam filling.

How are the window views and laptop seating?

Looking down from the stairs leading to the outdoor tables, I got a sense of just how large the café was. The 9-meter ceilings made it feel open, and we had a broad view through the full-height windows even from our seats. It was packed on the weekend we visited, though.

We brought a laptop and sat at a table with a power outlet. Being able to charge it while using it was convenient.

Is it suitable for children and family gatherings?

There were plenty of high chairs and a baby care room right beside the restrooms. The café was designated a kids care zone, so I thought it would work well for a family visit. Signs also indicated that pets were allowed.

The self-service station had water and grapefruit water. You could pack leftover bread yourself, and used dishes were to be left on the table.

The restrooms were straight toward the back from the entrance. They had Dyson hand dryers.

What are the outdoor area and weekend bubble times like?

Before leaving, I headed up to look at the outdoor tables and came across an artwork. Its description explained that it used charred wood that had survived fire to create a space of renewal and comfort. At first I had passed it as decoration, but knowing the story made me see it differently.

Past the artwork, I stepped outside to the outdoor tables. It was pleasantly cool that day, and quite a few people were sitting outside. I thought it would be a good spot in spring or autumn.

Bubbles were being blown as we were leaving, so I stopped to watch for a moment. According to the original post, this runs on weekends at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM for 30 minutes each. The tiled floor was slippery, so anyone visiting with children would need to stay close and keep an eye on them.

At MUG, I could enjoy coffee and bakery items in a spacious setting, then look around the exhibitions and take in the outdoor scenery. It was busy on the weekend, but the parking and facilities for children made it stand out to me as a place for a family gathering.
