Gyeongju café coffee and whole-apple pastry: Gyeongju Tokyo Pie
In short
Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a pastry dessert café in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. I took home the Premium Set and loved the crisp layers and whole-apple texture with an Americano. Verdict: a lovely travel snack or souvenir to enjoy with coffee.

While visiting Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju, I couldn’t just walk past without picking up a dessert 🤎 The place I packed up this time was Gyeongju Tokyo Pie (경주도쿄파이)!!

A takeaway dessert for a Hwangnidan-gil trip
There are so many delicious snacks and desserts in Hwangnidan-gil that it’s hard to decide what to take home, you know? This kind of treat would be nice to eat while traveling or to bring home, so I thought it would make a great Hwangnidan-gil souvenir too!!
When you travel to Gyeongju, you end up looking not only for food but also for Hwangnidan-gil snacks to give to people around you, right? Tokyo Pie was packaged so neatly that it looked easy to take along one by one while traveling, and nice to enjoy with coffee once you get home too, hehe.

There was an event where you receive an Americano for writing a Naver review, so that may be helpful to know!! There are lots of other events too, so make sure to stop by and join one during your Gyeongju trip!

The Premium Set and whole-apple pie
I bought the Premium Set this time! What I was most curious about was the apple inside!

Since you can enjoy coffee along with dessert, it seemed like a nice place to take a little break during a Gyeongju trip too, right?

Crisp pastry and apple texture
Tokyo Pie didn’t have the texture of ordinary bread on the outside—it was a wonderfully crisp pastry pie, which I loved from the first bite. The flaky pastry layers had such a satisfying crunch, with a whole apple inside, so you could enjoy the apple’s texture too! That was the point 🍎
The outside was crisp and there was apple inside, so the texture was really fun in one bite. Personally, when a dessert is only very sweet, I can get tired of it after a few bites, but it was just right with coffee. When I eat dessert, an Americano really is my favorite pairing, haha.

Instructions for eating and storing it after takeaway
One thing I liked about Gyeongju Tokyo Pie! It even provides instructions for how to eat and store the pies!!! When you bring takeaway home, you might wonder, “Can I just eat this right away?” or “How should I store the leftovers?” But having the eating and storage instructions included made it much more convenient to enjoy at home!!!
Especially with Hwangnidan-gil desserts you take away while traveling, you often cannot eat them immediately and bring them home instead, so I liked being able to know the storage method beforehand. It can be too much for either the buyer or recipient to finish in one go, right!? If you want to enjoy that crisp pastry texture properly, I recommend following the instructions :-)

Enjoying a Hwangnidan-gil snack at home after the trip
I think it is also a nice option for anyone looking beyond cafés in Gyeongju’s Hwangnidan-gil for a light snack to take away, or a Gyeongju Hwangnidan-gil souvenir to eat at home after the trip!! If you are wondering what to bring for your parents or friends after a Gyeongju trip, it seems like a dessert that would be easy to pack up and would suit gifting too >_<
Personally, I love packing up famous Gyeongju foods one by one, then taking them out at home while recalling the trip. I took home the Premium Set again this time and tried it with coffee; with a crisp pastry pie outside and a whole apple inside, it felt different from ordinary bread or cookies 🍎🤎
If you are planning to visit Gyeongju’s Hwangnidan-gil, I think it would be nice to stop by for dessert or a snack after a delicious meal!
