Jungnang chicken shop with gizzards and legs: Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong

In short

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong (평정닭강정) is a 15-year-old dakgangjeong (sweet-and-spicy fried chicken) takeout shop inside Myeongmok Market in Jungnang, Seoul. On a weekday evening, a medium-spicy dakgangjeong in the medium size at 9,000 won, gizzards at 8,000 won and four chicken legs at 6,000 won came to 23,000 won with sauce, and two people ate their fill with food left over. The medium-spicy dakgangjeong, moist inside with a glaze that was spicy but not punishing, was the top pick at Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong.

Hi~! It's Kong, the food blogger :)

I went to Myeongmok Market and ended up packing a solid dinner to go 🍗 While looking for something to grab inside the market, I stopped by ⭐️Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong!⭐️

The medium size dakgangjeong (fried chicken bites in sweet-spicy sauce) was ₩9,000, which felt reasonable, but once I added gizzards and some big chicken legs, it turned out to be more than enough for two people to eat until full. There were plenty of options too, and they fry it fresh right when you order — but bottom line, my top pick was still the medium-spicy dakgangjeong🤍

Where is Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong in Myeongmok Market?

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong is a takeout-only shop inside Myeongmok Market. As soon as I arrived, the sign out front said something like "15 years as a Myeongmok Market landmark," so it was easy to spot.

I visited on a weekday evening, and the location made it easy to grab dinner right after doing my market shopping.

What the shop is like inside

True to a market chicken shop, the front is lined with dakgangjeong, chicken legs, old-style whole fried chicken, and more.

It's set up for takeout rather than eating in, so it's perfect for grabbing dinner while doing your market shopping at Myeongmok Market. You can watch them fry everything right in front of you, so there's fun in browsing the menu while you wait.

Menu, spice levels and extra sauce prices

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong had more menu variety than I expected.

You can choose the dakgangjeong spice level: mild / medium-spicy / spicy. I wanted something moderately spicy, so I went with 🔥medium-spicy.

And one more thing to check when ordering!

Self-serve extra sauce corner priced at ₩500 each

You can also buy extra sauce for ₩500 each. When I visited, there was quite a variety — cheese mustard / cheese jalapeño / chili / spicy sauce, and more.

The sauce is self-serve, meaning you grab it yourself. I was so excited to grab just the food and go that I almost forgot the sauce and left it behind haha. If you buy extra sauce, make sure to check you've grabbed it before you leave👀

How does the medium-spicy dakgangjeong taste?

🍗 Medium-spicy dakgangjeong. My top pick was, of course, the dakgangjeong itself! The medium size is ₩9,000, and the portion was bigger than I expected. The medium-spicy flavor was sweet with just the right amount of heat, easy to eat without feeling overwhelming.

The chicken wasn't dry at all — moist and tender, which I loved! There were also chewy rice cakes mixed in here and there, so it was fun picking through and finding them one by one. Considering the price and portion together, this is a dish I'd recommend to anyone looking for good fried chicken in Jungnang.

Are the gizzards and chicken legs worth adding?

The gizzards were ₩8,000, bite-sized and chewy — surprisingly a nice treat. After eating just dakgangjeong, popping in a gizzard here and there made for a great combo, and I think it'd pair well with beer too🍺

Bite-sized fried chicken gizzards

The chicken legs were 4 for ₩6,000, and they were pretty big! By the time I got home they'd cooled off a bit, so I reheated them in the air fryer — the brining had gone all the way through, so they were delicious even without any sauce.

Would we go back to Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong?

From dakgangjeong to gizzards to chicken legs, ₩23,000 was more than enough for two people to eat until full at Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong. There were plenty of menu options to pick from, but my top pick was the medium-spicy dakgangjeong, where the moist chicken paired so well with the just-right spicy sauce🤍

If I'm ever at Myeongmok Market again, I think I'll be picking this up to go pretty often :)
