In short

Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is a pork galbi (marinated pork rib) restaurant in the Choryang galbi alley near Busan Station, Dong-gu, Busan. The writer stopped by Choryang Hyeongje Galbi after going to see Bukang-i (부캉이) and ordered pork galbi and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and particularly enjoyed the kimchi served alongside the sweet, salty marinade. Choryang Hyeongje Galbi also sells its kimchi and pork galbi online, so the same pairing can be enjoyed at home.

Choryang Hyeongje Pork Galbi

A pork galbi review from a trip to see Buc the wombat! Haha. I was looking for a place to eat meat near Busan Station and found Choryang Hyeongje Galbi. It's in the Choryang galbi alley, so anyone searching for a meat restaurant near Busan Station has probably heard of it before. This time I visited myself and tried the pork galbi and doenjang jjigae :)

What is Choryang Hyeongje Galbi near Busan Station?

Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is a pork galbi restaurant in the Choryang galbi alley close to Busan Station, well known by word of mouth even among the many other galbi restaurants packed into the same alley. It seemed like a good option for a meal while traveling in Busan or when looking for a meat restaurant near Busan Station.

Visiting Choryang Hyeongje Galbi in the Choryang galbi alley

The place is introduced as somewhere you keep coming back to once you've tried it, and eating there myself I could kind of see why people keep coming. The atmosphere in particular felt comfortable for family meals or casual meals with friends.

How does the pork galbi at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi taste?

The pork galbi at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi has a sweet yet salty marinade that soaks well into the meat, making it great with rice. What we ordered that day was pork galbi — of course you can't resist pork galbi once you're at a galbi restaurant, haha.

The meat just needs to be grilled nicely on the tabletop grill. Galbi tastes great on its own, but you know it's even better wrapped with garlic or kimchi, right?

Personally, the kimchi that day was tastier than I expected, so I kept reaching for it. Kimchi flavor is surprisingly important when eating meat, and paired with the pork galbi it cut through the richness nicely — a good combination. Eat a piece of meat, top it with kimchi, and you just keep eating, haha.

Is the doenjang jjigae at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi worth ordering?

At Choryang Hyeongje Galbi we also ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) along with the pork galbi, and it cleansed the palate nicely between bites of the sweet galbi marinade. It felt like a shame to eat only meat at a meat restaurant, so we ordered the doenjang jjigae too. Doenjang jjigae with rice alongside pork galbi is basically an unwritten rule, isn't it, haha. A warm spoonful of doenjang jjigae in between bites of meat was just right.

Since the galbi marinade is on the sweeter side, eating doenjang jjigae in between made my mouth feel refreshed. Eating rice with doenjang jjigae and then topping it off with one more piece of galbi at the end felt like a proper meal.

Can you buy Choryang Hyeongje Galbi's kimchi and pork galbi online?

It turns out Choryang Hyeongje Galbi doesn't just serve food in-store — they also sell kimchi and pork galbi online. What stuck with me this time was that not only the meat but also the kimchi was delicious, so it was nice to know I could order the menu I enjoyed and eat it at home too.

For anyone who especially likes pork galbi, it seems great for grilling comfortably at home, and ordering the kimchi alongside lets you enjoy the exact same combination you had at the restaurant.
