Can you get to The Barbecue 051 by bus?

The Barbecue 051 is close to a bus stop, so I'd recommend public transport if you're going to drink, haha. (TMI... we came on bus 100, haha.) It's also very near major spots like Dongbusan Outlet, Gijang Matie and Newseasn, so access is great.

The meat tastes amazing in the wide-open outdoor space, and by the time we finished and left, a waiting line had formed. It's a popular spot near Gijang's Osiria area.

The Barbecue 051 is a dog-friendly BBQ spot in Gijang, but pets are allowed only in the outdoor designated seats, limited to 1 pet per party. These rules are for everyone's comfort, so check before you go!

There are also high chairs inside, so it works well for a family meal with small children.

Side dishes and self-serve bar at The Barbecue 051

Once you sit down, the side dishes are set out quickly on the outdoor-style table, which feels like a BBQ area at a holiday destination.

The basic spread has refreshing, clean-tasting cold bean sprout soup, tangy spicy geotjeori (fresh-tossed kimchi), appetite-boosting tofu kimchi, kimchi, and ssammu (pickled radish wraps). Fresh wrap vegetables are at the in-store self-bar, so take as much as you like (we skipped them to focus on the taste of the meat, haha).

Six sauces and the hidden soybean powder

For dipping, you get savory jeotgal (salted seafood), sweet-salty charcoal BBQ sauce, ssamjang (wrap paste), wasabi, curry powder and salt, and you can refill freely at the self-bar. There's also nutty kongaru (roasted soybean powder) hiding at the self-bar, so don't forget to grab some!

Soju served in an ice bucket 🧊

When we ordered soju, it came chilled in a stylish ice bucket so you can drink it cold down to the last drop... I really wanted one for myself, hahaha.

How good is the 440g aged pork and 5-skewer set (52,000 won)?

We ordered The Barbecue 051's signature set for two: 440g aged pre-grilled pork plus 5 handmade skewers, for ₩52,000.

Set for two: 440g aged pre-grilled pork and 5 handmade skewers

The meat is pre-grilled over real charcoal and seasoned in the kitchen, so you don't need to grill it long, and you can taste the charcoal aroma and locked-in juices.

You pick 2 meats from pork belly, pork neck (moksal) and gabrisal, and we chose pork belly and gabrisal!

When the pre-grilled meat arrives, staff set up the first round neatly on the grill. They also tipped us to eat the skin trimmed off the pork belly first, haha.

Gabrisal (pork neck-end)

The gabrisal had a properly chewy texture. We dipped it in the charcoal BBQ sauce or soy sauce to enjoy the meat itself, haha. With the outdoor atmosphere it felt like a campsite, haha. You never get tired of it and just keep eating.

Pork belly

The pork belly is pre-grilled over strong heat to seal the outside, so when you finish it on the grill it's crisp outside and juicy inside, a textbook example. The lean-to-fat ratio is good, so it isn't dry. With a bit of mild wasabi or kimchi, the spicy-salty kick goes so well with the meat, haha.

When should you grill the 5 handmade skewers?

The 5 handmade skewers are seasonal vegetables and fresh ingredients on sticks, pre-grilled for a smoky aroma. Staff kindly gave us a tip: leave the skewers at the edge of the grill and, after finishing the meat, grill them slowly as a drinking snack, haha.

For the skewers they gave us a nutty peanut sauce and crunchy toasted breadcrumbs on the side, and dipping them was a lot of fun~ There was even a skewer with an unusual combo of shrimp and sausage alternating.

Finishing with mul naengmyeon (6,000 won) and skewers

While enjoying the meat, we added The Barbecue 051's cold mul naengmyeon (₩6,000). The chewy noodles and the broth with floating ice crystals cut the richness of the meat, and putting a piece of well-cooked charcoal pork belly on the noodles like a wrap was a truly perfect match.

After finishing the meat, we closed with the skewers we'd saved, a lovely ending~!

Verdict: who should visit The Barbecue 051?

The Barbecue 051 is a great Songjeong spot where you can escape stuffy interiors and, in the romantic atmosphere of an outdoor yajang (open-air eatery), taste smoky, charcoal-scented premium pork BBQ backed by 10 years of experience. The meat, the set composition and the cold drink service were all good, and when we left I understood why there's a wait.

If you're looking for a date, a family meal, or a BBQ place to take your doggo near east Busan or Gijang's Osiria area, I strongly recommend going to The Barbecue 051 to recharge on open-air vibes! You'll fall for the charcoal-scented meat. 🔥❤️
