Daejeon hanwoo BBQ with 500g special cuts and tartare bibimbap: Worang

I wanted to eat proper hanwoo (Korean beef) in Daejeon, so my mom, my sister and I headed to Worang Myeongga Daejeon Yuseong Main Branch, a hanwoo spot in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon.

Worang Myeongga Daejeon Yuseong Main Branch is just a 1-minute walk from Exit 8 of Yuseong Oncheon Station, so it's easy to reach by public transit, and there's a large parking area too, so driving there isn't a hassle either.

Another plus is that you can get both beef and lamb here, so there's no need to agonize over the menu.

They also sell wine and insam-ju (ginseng liquor), so it's a good place to enjoy a drink alongside your hanwoo.

Inside Worang Myeongga: seating, partitions and private rooms

The place is spacious with generous table spacing. Every seat has a partition, so even the main hall feels private. It's clearly a popular spot — packed with customers. It's a big BBQ restaurant that only opens the 1st floor for lunch and opens up the 2nd floor as well in the evening.

There are also 3 private rooms for a more private meal, great for family or group gatherings. One side of the hall has a decorative partition that adds a nice touch of style. Every seat feels like its own separate space, so even in the main hall you can eat comfortably.

There's a self-bar too, so even dessert is covered! There's japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and muk-muchim (seasoned jelly salad), leafy greens for wraps, plus steamed corn, cherry tomatoes, oranges and other fruit. Finishing off the meat with some refreshing fruit made for a clean ending.

Is the 500g special-cuts hanwoo platter enough for three people?

Worang Myeongga is a butcher-shop restaurant handling premium 1++ female hanwoo, so it's great that you can inspect and choose the meat yourself.

I visited with my mom and sister, three of us, and ordered the 500g assorted special cuts platter. It's a great lineup for trying five cuts at once — brisket, skirt, short rib, flap and sirloin.

The meat quality is amazing, right? It was a good portion for three people, and true to 1++ hanwoo form, it was tender enough to melt in your mouth.

How the five hanwoo cuts taste, one by one

Hanwoo has different texture and flavor depending on the cut, which makes it fun to eat a variety. Sirloin best captures hanwoo's signature savory flavor and juiciness — grill it lightly and one bite spreads soft texture and nutty flavor across your mouth.

The flap meat had the center tendon removed, so there was no chewy part at all — clean and chewy in a good way. Skirt meat gets more richly flavorful the more you chew it, and the brisket, with just the right mix of fat and lean meat, had an especially nice nutty taste.

The short rib had rich beefy aroma paired with soft texture, so even with just a little salt you could fully taste the hanwoo itself.

Good hanwoo is delicious no matter which cut you eat! Delicious no matter how you eat it haha^^

How generous are the side dishes and the fruit self-bar?

Worang Myeongga is famous for basic banchan (side dishes) that are both upscale and generous~~ They set out this much, plus more banchan you can grab from the self-bar — it's amazing^^

There's beef tartare, seasoned crab, cow's stomach (cheonyeop), salted pollock roe, along with japchae, salad, tomato-yam salad, steamed egg, hanwoo dried radish greens soybean soup, and myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves) — the table's practically overflowing.

The meat is premium quality and delicious, and the banchan is excellent too, so my mom really loved it. She finished a whole bowl of rice with the seasoned crab and hanwoo dried radish greens soup haha.

Yukhoe bibimbap and cold buckwheat noodles to finish

There's a good variety of meal menus too, so it's great for lunch and has good value for the price. I ordered beef tartare bibimbap and cold noodles for dessert.

With such good meat quality, the beef tartare bibimbap couldn't help but be delicious too. The portion of beef tartare was generous as well, very satisfying^^

The cold noodles for dessert are cheap, but the portion is just as big as a regular noodle meal, and they're so good. You really have to try the noodles too~~

That corn at the self-bar is such a temptress haha. It's so good you can't resist even when you're stuffed! Worang Myeongga is basically a corn destination too^^
