I went to Jeju Doldam Sangnam Main Branch in Sangnam-dong and had suuuch delicious Jeju black pork ogyeopsal!! If you're looking for black pork ogyeopsal in Sangnam-dong, you really have to come here at least once haha.

Such a cleeean interior. Meat is always the most universally suggested menu when several people are eating together, right?! It happens when meeting friends, and when choosing a work-dinner menu too—we so often end up at a Korean barbecue place.

But once you're there, it can be a little annoying when one person has to hold the tongs and keep grilling. Especially with a larger group, it isn't easy to grill at the pace everyone is eating, either.

Jeju Doldam Sangnam Main Branch is described as a place that grills the meat for you. That kind of thing is sooo nice for a group meal or work dinner, isn't it?! Hahaha.

If you're looking for a Sangnam-dong venue for a group gathering, it would be good to ask about reservations based on your party size. On days when lots of people are going, it's more convenient to check in advance whether you can sit together on the same side. Haha. From a casual meat meal with friends to a company dinner, this is just the place if you have black pork in mind!

Chewy ogyeopsal and Jeju meljeot

A close-up of the ogyeopsal. This is what we ordered. The color looks so good, right? Haha, Jeju black pork really is the best!! I also loved being able to stop by for Jeju black pork in Sangnam-dong without going far away. True to the name Jeju Doldam, its signature dish is Jeju black pork ogyeopsal.

Dip it in Jeju meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) and it's seriously game over hahaha. Ahh... you know to dunk it deeply and generously in the meljeot, right?!

Kimchi stew and assorted accompaniments

Jeju Doldam also has mayo ssamjang and galchi sokjeot (hairtail innards sauce) as accompaniments. Even with the same meat, the flavor changes depending on what you pair it with, right? If you usually only have ssamjang, having these accompaniments on the menu makes every bite feel different—and makes this the kind of place you save because you want to come back hahaha.

Of everything I had this time, the kimchi stew that came with the ogyeopsal was especially memorable.

How was the kimchi stew?

Since it was a day out for meat, I wasn't thinking much about the kimchi stew, but it was delicious when I tried it. I ate pieces of meat and spooned up some stew in between. Having a soupy dish like this made the meal nicer than just eating meat straight through. It's oddly delightful when the kimchi stew at a Korean barbecue restaurant is good, isn't it? The meat is the main event, but when you keep reaching for the stew too, it feels like you had an even better meal!

It was comfortable to eat because they grilled the meat for us. I thought that would be convenient on a day when several people meet up, too. The menu matters when choosing a work-dinner venue, but you also look at whether everyone can eat comfortably together, so I recommend checking the seating when you make a reservation as well~~
