Where is Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong?
Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong (감골연탄집 목동점) is a briquette-grill BBQ restaurant three minutes from Exit 2 of Omokgyo Station. It's a real find near the station and it only opened recently, so everybody keep your eyes peeled! 👀

Gamgol Yeontanjip is famous enough to have been introduced on TV. Lots of branches have been popping up everywhere lately and I'd had my eye on it, so when I got the chance I went right away!
The entrance is already so cute.. it's shaped like a briquette... haha

What does the grandma's-house dining room at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong look like?
The dining room at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong was really big. It looks large enough to hold a company dinner.

I couldn't photograph the other side because it was full of diners, but it was really spacious! And... the concept here is clear. See the flower pattern on the chairs? It has a kind of grandma's-house vibe.

They even had the sitcom Unstoppable High Kick (거침없이 하이킥) playing on a binge-watch loop. Honestly... right up my alley 🫶🏻
Let me leave the Wi-Fi info here, too.

The glass bottle of barley tea fits the grandma's-house vibe so well 🧡 I loved this paper too... you just place things to match the picture! I'm impressed by Gamgol Yeontanjip's sense of detail..!!
Three standard sauces: ssamjang, basil sauce and sesame oil
Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong gives you as many as three sauces~ ssamjang, basil sauce and sesame oil. The basil sauce is so novel that I couldn't wait to dip something in it.

What we ordered at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong
This is the menu! We ordered the special cut seolhwa kkodeulsal, which they say is sold in limited quantity each day.

I'll attach the drinks menu too.

Side dishes and the self-service corner
Once you order, they set out side dishes like this.

Scallion kimchi, kimchi, vegetable wraps and shredded scallion salad~

There's also a self-service corner, so just help yourself if you need more side dishes.

How does daily-limited seolhwa kkodeulsal taste grilled over briquettes?
Finally our seolhwa kkodeulsal for 2 arrived. It's a special cut that apparently yields only a few hundred grams per pig. The texture is really chewy and springy.
Time to switch into eating mode! First you heat the grill with fat,

then lay the meat over the briquette fire~ Cooked over briquettes, the smoky flavor is seriously strong. When the meat turns golden brown!

put kimchi on the side :)

Cut it into bite-size pieces! And a full wrap~^_^ The chewiness of the meat is crazy, and the grilled kimchi and shredded scallions are... the best. What a combination!

Seolhwa kkodeulsal dipped in basil sauce
Next I dipped the seolhwa kkodeulsal in the basil sauce I'd been curious about. Basil and kkodeulsal? It felt unfamiliar, but this is totally sneaky...!!! It's very unusual yet delicious and so addictive that my hand kept going back.

Are Gamgol Yeontanjip's flat bibim noodles worth ordering?
This is the flat bibim noodles (napjak bibimmyeon, spicy mixed noodles) we ordered as a side.

Seeing this, how could I not order it? They say eating meat together with these noodles is heaven.. haha so I ordered right away and mixed them up!

The sauce on the flat bibim noodles is wonderfully sweet and tangy, and the noodles themselves are thin and translucent, so the seasoning soaks right in.

And wrapped up with the meat!!! Need I say more? Definitely, absolutely order it.
Is the jureuljuri teukmoksal (special pork neck) tender?
Why is there a picture of the grill being wiped again? Because I couldn't stop there and wanted to try another meat haha. We immediately ordered the jureuljuri teukmoksal. I overheard a staff member telling another table that it's as tender as steak.

I ordered it half-doubtful, but it really melts in your mouth.. I thought pork would be far from tender, but it was really tender!!
After I ate away diligently,

ta-da! hahahaha squeaky clean

Finishing with a plum smoothie at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong
The kicker at Gamgol Yeontanjip is this plum smoothie. Don't they just do everything right here? A plum smoothie 💚 to wash away the greasiness in your mouth.

It had such elementary-school nostalgia, a happy end to the meal! Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong honestly has nothing to leave out, from start to finish. Personally I'm 200% planning to visit again. I'd absolutely recommend it as an Omokgyo BBQ spot. I hope everyone eats while remembering the good old days 🫶🏻
