Dog-friendly dakgalbi restaurant in Sinbuk, Chuncheon: Hwagye
In short
Hwagye Dakgalbi is a charcoal-grilled dakgalbi (spicy chicken) restaurant on Sinsaembat-ro in Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, split into a griddle zone and a charcoal zone, and dogs are welcome. In the charcoal zone we ordered the salt, soy, and gochujang dakgalbi with beer, and the thick cuts had no gamy smell and carried a clear charcoal aroma. With a wide free parking lot and indoor dog access as long as the carrier stays closed, Hwagye Dakgalbi is an easy Chuncheon dakgalbi stop if you bring a dog stroller.

Griddle zone or charcoal zone, and how does bringing a dog work?

Once inside, the space is split into a griddle zone and a charcoal zone. We went into the charcoal zone, and a spacious, comfortable hall with black-tone marble tables greeted us.

The tables are set well apart, perfect for a group. Each table has a solid smoke ventilation system, so no worries about smoke.

It was genuinely nice to see that dogs are welcome here haha. That said, carriers must stay closed indoors, so for a safe and comfortable meal I'd strongly recommend bringing a dog stroller and wheeling your pup in! 🐶

It's a great setup for sampling a bunch of different things without pressure. We ordered generously to try a bit of everything.
How the salt and soy charcoal dakgalbi tastes

The seasoning on the salt and soy dakgalbi is genuinely a work of art.

They use fresh raw chicken, so I was surprised there was zero gamy smell.
The charcoal aroma soaks all the way through, and the juices burst with every bite. It's savory yet clean-tasting, lingering pleasantly in your mouth. Not too salty or sweet, just subtle enough that you keep reaching for more. The tender texture means kids would probably love it too.

Placed right on top of white rice, it just melts in your mouth — hard not to let out a little exclamation.
Gochujang dakgalbi with beer
The spicy gochujang dakgalbi gets even more charming grilled over charcoal.

The seasoning isn't harsh at all — it's got this rich, savory depth that's just excellent.
Thanks to the thick-cut meat, the chewy texture is amazing. I kept saying 'this is so good' throughout the whole meal.

Pair it with a cold beer and it's absolute perfection. It cuts right through the richness — the combo is a perfect match. I enjoyed every last bite to the fullest. 🥹
