Yangyang café for an early-summer boat date: Cafe Dunchi
In short
Cafe Dunchi is a floating café on the lower Namdaecheon in Yangyang, Gangwon, with views of the river, mountains, and distant sea. I visited with my partner on an early summer trip, and the gentle electric boat ride and nearby walking paths were the highlights.

For my birthday, my partner and I took an early summer trip to Yangyang. Cafe Dunchi, which my partner found before the trip, was a floating café on the surface of the Namdaecheon. We visited because we could relax by the river and add an electric boat experience.

What can you see from Cafe Dunchi’s window seats?
The café is on the lower stretch of the Namdaecheon. From a window seat, I could turn my head and see the distant sea horizon and mountains together. I liked the open view, from the nearby river water to the far-off scenery.

Can you walk around the café?
Namdaecheon Salmon Ecological Park is directly nearby. Its walking paths have reeds and silver grass, along with a boardwalk and an observatory, so it was nice to walk before or after having a drink. It also worked well as a date route for looking around and talking with my partner.
What was the electric boat ride and fee like?
What I remember most here was the electric boat that travels directly on the Namdaecheon. It is run together with the Namdaecheon Water Sports Experience Center on the café’s first floor.

The fee listed in the original post was ₩28,000, and up to four people can ride. Another feature is that you can bring drinks aboard, so you can travel on the river with a coffee in hand.

Because the boat runs on an electric motor, it felt easy to operate, and it was not excessively fast. Cruising on the water with my partner in the river breeze remains a different kind of memory from this trip.

What coffee and desserts are available?
I heard that the coffee beans are sourced from a roastery in Gangneung. Beyond the scenery and boat experience, it was a café where I could enjoy coffee and handmade desserts together.

They say they make the fruit syrups used in fruit drinks and teas themselves.

The handmade desserts included yanggaeng (sweet bean jelly), cookies, and almond tuiles. I liked being able to combine the boat experience and café time in one route.

What stood out about this Yangyang date route?
At Cafe Dunchi, we could rest while looking at the calm river, ride a boat, and then walk the nearby paths. On this visit with my partner, the expansive view and the breeze we felt on the river stood out most.
