Seokchon Station beef BBQ before summer vacation: Sutbul Seonghwa
In short
Sutbul Seonghwa (숯불성화) is a charcoal-grilled beef Korean BBQ restaurant on Songnidan-gil in Songpa, Seoul, about a 7-minute walk from Seokchon Station Exit 1. Ahead of a summer vacation, the writer and a friend shared the 400g Seonghwa Platter (88,900 won) at a window seat; the 1% snowflake beef, cubed flower rib and wine-marinated rib were all tender, and Excellent ice cream came as a free dessert. With free parking and spacious seating, Sutbul Seonghwa is a solid Seokchon Station beef spot for family meals, group dinners and dates.

Right before summer vacation my energy always drops, and that's exactly when you should hunt down a Jamsil stamina-food spot. And when it comes to stamina food, it's beef, isn't it? I know the Songnidan-gil food scene pretty well, and the Seokchon Lake-area place I tried this time is the Seokchon Station BBQ restaurant Sutbul Seonghwa (숯불성화). I'm sure you all have your own favorite Jamsil BBQ spot, but come on in and take a look!

Free parking is available. Turn into the alley between Sutbul Seonghwa and Danmak and you'll find a free lot with no barrier next to the building, and valet runs from 17:00 to 22:00. The lot is small, so if valet isn't possible, use a nearby paid lot.

How to get to Sutbul Seonghwa from Seokchon Station
It's about a 7-minute walk from Exit 1 of Seokchon Station.

I came by bus, got off near Seokchon Station, and got there really quickly. It's also a free-parking spot in Jamsil, so those with a car can come and eat comfortably. Honestly, not many Jamsil restaurants offer free parking, but Sutbul Seonghwa does, so keep that in mind.

You can check the menu from the outside before you go in. The exterior alone already had a Seokchon Lake-vibe kind of feel. I went at a really awkward mealtime and it was still busy! A proper Seokchon Station hotspot.
Is Sutbul Seonghwa good for family and group dinners?

The inside of Sutbul Seonghwa is spacious, so I thought it would be great as a Seokchon Station company dinner spot or a Jamsil group gathering venue. The atmosphere was great the moment I walked in, and there were so many families, as if it were already known as a Jamsil family-meal place, that it felt a bit like a holiday.

Inside the restaurant you can see the beef being aged, and it looked rather high-end and made me trust that they're serious about their meat. It got me full of anticipation!

Window seat and side dishes at Sutbul Seonghwa

I sat at a window seat at Sutbul Seonghwa and the atmosphere was lovely. You can see people outside, so it feels open and not stuffy, which makes it a great Seokchon Lake date-course restaurant.

What I ordered was the Seonghwa Platter (1% snowflake beef + cubed flower rib + wine-marinated rib, ₩88,900). As soon as the order went in, they set out the side dishes, and even those felt neat and upscale, so I thought it would suit a Jamsil wedding-invitation get-together or a meeting too.

How was the Seonghwa Platter at Sutbul Seonghwa?
All three cuts in the Seonghwa Platter, the 1% snowflake beef, cubed flower rib and wine-marinated rib, were tender. It got toasty the moment they added the charcoal, but the air conditioning works so well that the heat isn't a problem.
When the meat arrived, it was so pretty right away. I mean, is "pretty" even the right word for meat? But I really couldn't describe it any other way. It was so pretty you could feel it was really good meat.
At Sutbul Seonghwa the staff grill the meat the first time around, and while they grilled I got explanations of the side dishes and the cuts. They also told us which sauces go well with what, so it was a very informative time.
1% snowflake beef
The first thing I ate, the 1% snowflake beef, had a texture that melted away like snowflakes. It was so tender it felt like I didn't even use my jaw! Texture matters a lot to me when eating beef, and this was so soft my eyes went wide.
Cubed flower rib
Next up was the cubed flower rib (kkakttuk kkotgalbisal)! My friend grilled it, and honestly they grill so well they could run a restaurant. This friend is the reason I got into beef, and, true to a Seokchon Station beef hotspot, it was delicious again. While each of its six sides was seared in turn, the smell alone seemed like it would taste amazing, and it was tender when I ate it too. I really do think you should eat good cuts of beef. It was so tender.

The beef at Sutbul Seonghwa tastes great even with basic dips like wasabi and salt, since the beef's own flavor is so good, and it was also delicious with the sauce-soaked pickled onions or myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves).

Wine-marinated rib
The wine-marinated rib (neukgansal) I had next didn't have a lot of marinade on it, so the beef's own flavor came through, which was actually nice. The beef at Sutbul Seonghwa tastes so good that you don't need to dip it in lots of sauce. This cut was tender too, which I loved.
I ate every last bite. They were just tender cuts through and through. If you're looking for a Songnidan-gil BBQ place or a Songnidan-gil beef spot, give Sutbul Seonghwa a try!

What free dessert does Sutbul Seonghwa serve?
A huge strength of Sutbul Seonghwa is the free dessert! You get Excellent ice cream, and it had been so long since I'd had Excellent that I totally lost it. It's a perfect pairing as a dessert after meat, I'd say.
Even the dessert felt like a high-end Seokchon Station restaurant. It felt like they really look after their guests, and I liked that.
