In short

Did I choose a down perm cut because my side hair sticks out?
As my hair grew out, my side hair became a bigger concern than my fringe or the back. Even after wetting and blow-drying it in the morning, it would puff out again after I had been out for a few hours.
Even when I dressed neatly, my hair made my overall impression feel less put together. This time, rather than simply shortening it, I wanted it shaped to suit my head and hair condition, so I visited Ieum Men's Hair Bucheon City Hall Station Branch (이움 맨즈헤어 부천시청역점).
In my case, cutting it short alone made it difficult to maintain the shape I wanted. I also considered the neat styles at barbershops, but looked for a men’s hair salon where I could discuss my face shape and usual styling routine as well.
What consultation did I receive before the service?
First, I discussed what felt inconvenient about my current hair and the style I wanted. I specifically said that the volume at the sides made my overall outline look heavy. After looking at my face shape and head shape, the stylist explained where the volume would be reduced. Deciding on the direction together took away some of the pressure of having to explain the result I wanted on my own.
I was told that a design cut was the base, with additional services applied according to my hair condition and desired shape. I liked that they considered not only my head shape but also my hair direction and styling habits, and I chose a down perm cut to tidy the grown-out areas and press down the sides.
Was the cut and down perm process comfortable?
During the cut, the protruding areas were tidied so that the hair outline flowed naturally. The fringe and top were left at lengths that would be easy for me to style, while the sides and back were blended neatly. They also explained the current length and final shape along the way.
Before the down perm, they checked the necessary areas and carefully applied a scalp protector. The methodical preparation felt attentive, and I had the service without any particular discomfort.
The volume was reduced where needed on the sides to suit my head shape. Rather than looking unnaturally flat, the hair that had puffed outward settled down, leaving a neater outline.
What services besides a down perm were discussed?
The salon said it also offers consultations for design perms, iron perms, volume straightening, and gray coverage. The approach can vary according to hair length, damage level, and the desired shape. Since I received a down perm cut, I cannot compare the results of the other services.
What changed before and after the down perm cut?
The first change I noticed in the mirror was the volume at the sides. The area around my ears and the back were also tidied, so it looked less like it had grown out messily. Length and volume remained on top, keeping the overall look from appearing too flat, and the side profile flowed naturally as well.
Once my hair was tidier, there were fewer things that bothered me when looking in the mirror or taking photos. I also spent less time fixing my hair before going out, which was satisfying in everyday life.
Do they explain how to style it at home?
What I especially liked about this visit was the post-service styling consultation. Based on my hair direction, I was told to blow-dry the sides from top to bottom and dry the top around the roots to maintain volume. They also showed me how to dry my fringe while guiding it in the direction I wanted.
For styling products such as wax, I was advised to spread a small amount evenly over my palms and use it in portions where needed. The explanation was specific, which helped when I styled my hair by myself the next day. It did not end with seeing the finished result; I also learned how to shape it at home.
I was told that the time to avoid washing my hair or situations that press it down immediately after the service varies by product and hair condition, so it is best to follow the salon’s guidance. For home care, I also noted the advice to press water out with a towel instead of rubbing vigorously, dry from the scalp first, then smooth the sides downward.
Why would I like to return?
I was happy with how calmly the side hair was tidied, but I also remember the whole process—from the consultation before the service to the scalp protector and styling guidance afterward. They explained a direction suited to my head shape and hair texture and showed me how to care for it myself, so I would like to get my hair trimmed here again.
