Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch is a shabu kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Gomae-dong, Yongin, near Lotte Outlet Yongin Giheung. Two diners shared the 5-course kalguksu (12,000 won) and the whole-shrimp seafood pancake (13,500 won), then finished with the free perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice and a misugaru (roasted grain powder) slushie, with only a short wait and a parking lot on site. Because Jangwongap serves the meal course by course, it is worth arriving with plenty of time.

Jumunjin Market halibut and rockfish sashimi to go: Ilchul Hoetjip

Ilchul Hoetjip is a raw fish and seafood restaurant inside Jumunjin Fisheries Market in Gangneung. A small halibut and rockfish sashimi platter reserved in advance for ₩50,000 came with wrapping greens, whelk, shrimp and abalone, and was eaten for dinner at a private pension. The takeout setup suited travelers who'd rather eat comfortably at their accommodation than sit down at the shop.

Jumunjin small sashimi takeout plus seafood ramyeon: Minja Hoetjip

The writer ordered a small assorted sashimi platter to pick up for dinner at a private pension, and it came loaded with salmon, white fish, red fish, wrap greens, and whelk, shrimp, and abalone. Even at the small size, the portion and variety made it a satisfying pension dinner, especially once turned into a seafood ramyeon.

Family villa in Gangneung with separate floors: Yeongjin-gil 51

Yeongjin-gil 51 is a split two-story private villa in Yeongon-myeon, Gangneung, just a 3-minute walk from Yeongjin Beach. The writer stayed one night with family, eating takeout sashimi from Jumunjin Fish Market in the 1st floor dining room and unwinding in the 2nd floor hinoki spa. With a layout that's great for gathering together and resting separately by floor, this fits well for anyone looking for a Gangneung stay for a group.

Gangmun Beach, Gangneung makguksu with katsuobushi broth: Gossi's

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch is a self-made noodle restaurant taking up an entire building right across from Gangmun Beach in Gangneung. The writer poured bonito (gatsuobushi) broth over both the perilla oil noodles and the bibim noodles, and paired them with warm pork belly served on a small brazier. The thick, chewy house-made noodles and warm pork combination stood out, and the second floor has a full ocean view.

Whole crab sundubu hot pot in Gangneung: Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu

Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu is a chodang sundubu (tofu) restaurant on Nanseolheon-ro in Gangneung, run by a certified Korean master chef. Four people shared the ₩25,000-per-person Chodang deluxe table (sundubu jjigae + tofu samhap + seasoned pollock), and the stew's broth, made deep by a whole snow crab, plus a boiled pork dish better than some specialty pork places, made the meal stand out. With its own parking lot, it's a great pick for a group trip through Gangneung by car.
