Save this one if you're looking for a good café in Chodang-dong. If you just search for pretty Gangneung cafés and pick one based on looks alone, the coffee can end up being a letdown.

I was originally just looking for a spacious, comfortable café when I ended up at Coffee Dripper. The coffee turned out better than expected, and the patbingsu (shaved ice dessert) was genuinely great — it stuck with me.

If you're hunting for good food and cafés in Chodang-dong, this is worth saving as a stop after a meal.
What kind of café is Coffee Dripper?
Coffee Dripper is a roastery café near Chodang-dong in Gangneung. The space is spacious with huge floor-to-ceiling windows, so just sitting there gave a real sense of the season. It's also about a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach, making it a nice stop after a beach walk.
When people think of a Gangneung trip, they usually picture only beachfront cafés, but the Chodang-dong cafés have their own charm too.

It's a bit calmer, good for resting after a meal, and good for focusing on the coffee itself. Don't you sometimes want a café in Gangneung that cares about taste, not just pretty photos?
Why Coffee Dripper works as a Chodang-dong coffee stop
What I liked about Coffee Dripper wasn't just that it's spacious.

Because you can see the outside scenery through the floor-to-ceiling windows, sitting inside never felt stuffy. It felt like a space that would change mood with every season — good for cool shaved ice in summer, and good for an Americano by the window in fall.

Sitting there really did feel like slowing down for a moment in the middle of a Gangneung trip.
Getting there: a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach
Coffee Dripper works well for anyone route-planning a Chodang-dong café visit in Gangneung. It's about a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach, so you can see the sea and then head straight to the café.

Being able to move like you're on a stroll, without having to move the car again, turned out to be a bigger perk than I expected. When I travel, I prefer parking once and walking a route over constantly driving around. Coffee Dripper worked well in that sense as a café near Gangmun Beach — and it's also a good stop for dessert after eating in Chodang-dong.
When you build a list of recommended Gangneung cafés, sticking only to beachfront spots can mean crowds and chaos. If you combine a Chodang-dong meal with a Gangmun Beach walk, Coffee Dripper fits the route nicely.
How many cars can park at Coffee Dripper?
The parking lot is fairly large, fitting about 13 cars. Traveling around Gangneung, I've noticed that even a great café feels exhausting to visit if parking is a hassle.

With parking available, Coffee Dripper felt less stressful for anyone arriving by car. Parking matters especially if you're visiting during mealtimes while looking for food and coffee in Chodang-dong. I think a café with ample parking really boosts trip satisfaction. Coffee matters, but the moment you park comfortably right after arriving, you already feel a bit more at ease. Worth checking if you're looking for a café with parking near Gangmun Beach.
The cone choco latte sells out early
Popular menu items here can sell out early. There was a cone choco latte I really wanted to try, and it sold out right before my order. That moment was genuinely disappointing.
Ah, I should have come a little earlier.
That's exactly what came out of my mouth. If a popular item is your goal, it's best to avoid visiting too late.
A cute detail on the Coffee Dripper exterior
Out front, Coffee Dripper has a stone decoration.

The stone was styled like a bag, and it was so cute. It's a small thing, but details like this make you want to take a photo. When you're tired of your Gangneung trip photos being just coffee cups, a little photo spot like this is nice. Coffee Dripper felt less like an overly decorated space and more like a place with small, fun touches.
Inside Coffee Dripper: mood and seating
Walking in, I liked that the space is spacious right away. The seats weren't cramped, and the floor-to-ceiling windows let light in nicely. A lot of the cafés you see in Gangneung recommendation posts are pretty but small.
Coffee Dripper had a comfortable feel where you could sit for a long time. It's good for chatting with a friend and just as easy for resting alone with a coffee. If you're looking for good food and cafés in Chodang-dong, whether you can linger after a meal matters too.
What we ordered: drip homemade patbingsu and an Americano
I ordered the drip homemade patbingsu and an Americano. I initially thought about just having coffee, but the homemade patbingsu caught my eye. It felt like a waste to come all the way to Gangneung and just have an ordinary dessert.

Bottom line: I was glad I ordered the patbingsu.
Drip homemade patbingsu with misugaru
The drip homemade patbingsu is 100% milk snow ice topped with house-boiled red beans. On top of that goes misugaru (roasted grain powder) freshly ground at a local mill, which really brought out a nutty flavor. It wasn't just sweet shaved ice — you could taste the red bean aroma, the milk, and the nutty misugaru in sequence.

The first bite made me think, "even adults would love this." Red beans can get sickly sweet fast, but because these were house-boiled, they felt hearty yet clean. The milk snow ice was soft and melted smoothly in the mouth.
Why does homemade patbingsu feel so much more satisfying than the regular kind? For me, the misugaru was the real game-changer. The nutty aroma rising up made the shaved ice feel so much deeper.

- Features: 100% milk snow ice, house-boiled red beans, mill-ground misugaru
- Recommended for: people who prefer nutty shaved ice over just-sweet shaved ice
The Americano at Coffee Dripper
I also had an Americano alongside, and the beans tasted upscale. Maybe because Coffee Dripper is a roastery café, the coffee didn't feel like it just passed through lightly.

Even paired with the shaved ice, the coffee flavor wasn't drowned out, and the finish was clean. I always feel a bit let down at dessert cafés where the coffee is weak, but here both the shaved ice and the Americano were satisfying. For anyone looking for a recommended Gangneung café with good coffee, not just a pretty name, this one fits better.
Coffee Dripper vs. Gangneung's ocean-view cafés
Gangneung has plenty of ocean-view cafés and plenty of large-scale cafés too. But Coffee Dripper wasn't a café that overwhelms you with a view — it was one where the coffee and desserts were solidly good. Being about a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach, it kept beach access while offering a calmer atmosphere.

It felt like a better fit for anyone who wants to eat in Chodang-dong and follow it up with a nice dessert. If ocean-view cafés are about travel-mode feelings, Coffee Dripper felt closer to the kind of café you'd want to visit often if it were in your own neighborhood. Cafés like this tend to stay in my memory longer.
