I visited Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch in Haeundae, where you can enjoy refined Chinese cuisine with a wide-open view of Dongbaekseom island! Unlike the greasy, noisy Chinese restaurants you might imagine, this place completely won me over with its sleek interior and elegant plating the whole time I was there. Let me introduce it! 🍽️

Inside, Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch has a spacious, comfortable 100-pyeong hall with the Dongbaekseom sea view unfolding right through the windows. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the atmosphere was completely different from a typical Chinese restaurant.

The tables are also spaced generously apart, and there's a private room in the back, making it perfect for a date, a family meal, or a group gathering! You can easily book window seats in the hall or the private room through Naver Reservation!
What we ordered, plus the free eohyang mandu for a photo review
After some deliberation, we ordered the poached-egg ganjajang, haemul jjamppong, and eohyang-gaji (fish-fragrant eggplant) 🧑🏻🍳 The side dishes were jjacai and pickled radish!
On the table I noticed that if you write a photo review on your receipt, they'll give you free eohyang mandu (fish-fragrant dumplings)! Just a heads up ❤️🩹
Eohyang-gaji came out first — how does the fish-fragrant eggplant taste?
The first dish to arrive at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch was the eohyang-gaji. It's an authentic dish of crispy fried eggplant topped with a special fish-fragrant sauce made by stir-frying pork and doubanjiang.
The outside was crispy while the inside was tender and packed with vegetable juices — the texture was really appealing.
The sweet-spicy, umami-rich sauce soaked naturally into the crispy coating, making it an excellent accompaniment to the meal, and it paired really~ well with the onions.
How do you eat poached-egg ganjajang?
As we were eating the eohyang-gaji, the poached-egg ganjajang and haemul jjamppong arrived, filling the table. The poached-egg ganjajang has pork belly and onions stir-fried over high heat, giving it a deep smoky flavor, and you burst the soft poached egg on top of the noodles and mix it in — the rich, savory yolk gently wraps around the salty flavor of the black bean sauce for exceptional umami.
The chunky bites of meat and onion had perfect texture too — it made total sense why this is the signature dish 😉
Haemul jjamppong: how clean is the broth and what seafood is in it?
The haemul jjamppong at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch comes generously loaded with fresh seafood — mussels, octopus, clams, shrimp, and more, filling the bowl. There's no harsh or greasy flavor; instead, the natural, deep taste of the seafood comes through strongly, so the broth wasn't heavy at all and the finish was really clean!
The chewy noodles soaked up the spicy, refreshing broth so well it would've made a great hangover cure. I wasn't even drinking, but it still felt like curing a hangover ,, 🩷🩷
