Hongdae Korean BBQ dinner for three friends: Gogikkun Gimchunbae

In short

Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, right beside Gyeongui Line Forest Park, serving Korean beef and Korean pork together in one set. Three friends arrived on a weekday evening at 6:40pm and ordered the 109,000 won beef-and-pork set for two (600g) with half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles), diced rice and Cass beer, and the staff grilled and cut every piece of meat at the table. Gogikkun Gimchunbae is a good pick when you want to taste both beef and pork without choosing.

Perfect weather for a terrace dinner! I was walking along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park when a good smell pulled me in.. and ended up at this Hongdae Korean BBQ place known for its outdoor seating, haha. It's already a popular spot, and it's even more popular because they grill the meat for you — let me show you around!

This is Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch, a great spot for outdoor terrace dining. There are about 4-5 tables of terrace seating outside!

Inside Gogikkun Gimchunbae: interior and atmosphere

Indoor seating with a classic Korean BBQ atmosphere

Aside from the 5 terrace tables, every other table is indoors! It really has that classic Korean BBQ vibe, and the cool breeze drifts in from outside too, which I liked haha.

The restaurant packed with weekday evening customers

We arrived around 6:40pm on a weekday, and it was already packed! Once it hit 7pm it got even busier.. no surprise, this Hongdae BBQ spot is seriously popular..!

The menu at Gogikkun Gimchunbae and what three friends ordered

There were two of us, so we had

  • Set — ₩109,000
  • Half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles) — ₩7,000
  • Kkakdukbap (diced rice) — ₩8,000
  • Cass beer — ₩6,000

That's what we ate

Side dishes and table setting

Basic side dishes of namul and scallion salad
Salt, ssamjang, and minced garlic sauce trio

Seasoned namul (vegetable) side dishes and a trio of scallion sauces come as the default banchan (side dishes)! Salt, ssamjang, and minced garlic sauce all showed up too — a perfect match with the meat.

What arrives with the 600g Korean beef and pork set for two

Here comes the gorgeous beef-and-pork set. When you can't decide between beef and pork, this is exactly the Hongdae BBQ spot to visit haha.

Finely marbled beef salchisal

The beef is salchisal (chuck flap), and the marbling alone.. amazing. It looked like it would melt in your mouth, and honestly, it did.

Thick bone-in pork neck

Thick pork neck that looks straight out of a comic book!! It even comes with the bone attached!

Side vegetables of button mushroom, potato, and enoki mushroom

Vegetables were hiding under the meat plate.. button mushrooms, potatoes, and enoki mushrooms all spread out.

And they grill it all beautifully like this — just watching them do it is kind of relaxing and nice..

Meat grilled and cut by staff on the pan

Since it's all grilled and cut for you like this, it's great for hanging out with friends or going on a date — easy to keep talking, and honestly just really convenient.

How the salchisal (chuck flap tail) beef tastes

Salchisal grilled and cut into bite-sized pieces

The salchisal just melts, melts, melts.. my friends kept going mmm~! mmm~!! nonstop...

A juicy piece of grilled beef salchisal

Juices dripping everywhere.. this is definitely premium beef. Once the beef greased up the pan, next up came this.

The Korean pork set with grilled minari (water dropwort)

Pork set on the grill with minari

The pork set, haha. The meat is huge.. just grilling it with the minari (water dropwort) that came with it filled up that big plate.

Golden-brown grilled pork neck

Mouth-watering... and since they grilled it for us it was so easy.. the meat was chewy and the pork was delicious too.

A full plate of grilled pork

Honestly it's not easy to enjoy both pork and beef well in one meal haha, but with the set bundled together there was no need to overthink it..

Minari grilled alongside the meat

Now I get why people grill minari with meat.. it was fragrant and delicious.

Chewy pork dipped in melgeot sauce

Plump and chewy >.< The portion was huge, so even split three ways it was plenty! The three of us finished off this set plus rice and noodles..

They also serve melgeot (fermented anchovy sauce) to dip it in, which made it feel like being in Jeju for a moment~~ chewy like black pork, and really tasty.

Half-and-half naengmyeon, 7,000 won: cold broth or spicy, no need to choose

Half-and-half naengmyeon with water and spicy noodles side by side

This Hongdae BBQ place, Gimchunbae, solves that dilemma for you haha. Water naengmyeon..? Spicy naengmyeon..? No need to choose — they've made a half-and-half naengmyeon!!

Isn't the half-and-half idea great? I genuinely loved it. It's naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) with icy slush floating in it, and it pairs really well with pork.

I didn't think I liked spicy bibim-naengmyeon much.. but this changed my mind~ It was so good, and my friends were saying the same thing, wondering why it was so tasty haha.

A cold beer enjoyed alongside the meat

Wrapped up a lovely weekday evening with an ice-cold beer haha. The three of us ordered a 500ml beer each and it worked out perfectly to one glass each — I had no idea...

Finishing with kkakdukbap (diced rice), 8,000 won

We ordered kkakdukbap (diced rice) for dessert. It comes already made from the kitchen — they just wipe down the grill once, pour it on, press it down to get it warm, and it's ready to eat!

Kkakdukbap topped with leftover grilled meat

We sliced up some leftover meat and piled it on top for decoration haha. Adding meat made it chewier and even more delicious.. loved it. The crunchy kkakdugi (radish kimchi) blends into the rice without being too spicy or intense, wrapping up the meal like a K-dessert! An amazing meal all around.

A Hongdae Korean BBQ spot perfect for terrace dining after a walk along the forest path near Yeonnam and Hongdae. They sell premium beef and pork together as a set..! A place where you can enjoy both beef and pork without any second-guessing. The half-and-half naengmyeon side is such a clever idea, and the kkakdukbap finish is just right too haha, so it's a satisfying meal from start to finish~~ And since they grill everything for you haha, it was comfortable and easy to keep chatting too!
