Sinchon 24-hour Korean restaurant: Pyeongando Sikdang

In short

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is a 24-hour gukbap restaurant in Seodaemun, Seoul. We had boneless gukbap and a spicy hangover soup set with boiled pork, and loved the deep, clean broth and generous meat. Verdict: a great easy choice for solo meals or a late-night hangover cure.

Location guide for Pyeongando Sikdang in Sinchon

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch (평안도식당 신촌점), a 24-hour sundae-guk (Korean sausage soup) restaurant in Sinchon, sits on an alley street just a three-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sinchon Station. It is so close to the station that getting there by public transit is a breeze, and if you live nearby and cannot decide where to eat, it is the kind of place you can just walk to without a second thought.

Menu board in front of Pyeongando Sikdang

There was a standing menu board right outside, so we could choose ahead of time. There is a little parking directly in front, but it looked extremely tight, so I recommend taking public transit or walking!

A comfortable interior for dining solo

Spacious, clean seating inside Pyeongando Sikdang
Interior with one-person counter seats by the window

The restaurant was clean, with plenty of spacious seating. I was surprised by how pleasant it was for a gukbap place. And it really has such a good atmosphere for eating alone! There are lots of one-person counter seats by the window, and it was quiet. The tables are also nicely spaced out, so it looked great for dinner with friends after work. I imagine turnover is quick even during a busy lunch rush, haha.

How to enjoy sundae-guk! Honestly, the broth was so deep in flavor that it was delicious even as is, haha. Please refer to the photo for the country-of-origin information!

Pyeongando Sikdang's broth, simmered continuously for 24 hours, is excellent. It serves clean-tasting Korean food without being overpowering. When ordering sundae-guk, you can choose mixed ingredients, meat only, or sundae only to suit your preference, and there was a huge variety of menu options too.

We ordered the boneless gukbap (₩13,000) and the spicy hangover soup set (₩16,000), and had them with suyuk (boiled pork slices).

Generous meat and deep broth

Basic side dishes served with gukbap

The side dishes came out first, all neatly arranged. They were simple but essential: garlic chives, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi, Cheongyang chili peppers, ssamjang (savory dipping paste), and more.

There was plenty of salted seafood and spicy seasoning paste too, and everything seemed cleanly maintained, which put me at ease.

At last, the main dishes...! The sundae and suyuk were seriously delicious too. The broth was not just spicy; it had a warming kick and real depth. Dipping the suyuk in the gukbap broth until juicy, then topping it with kimchi, was an absolutely dreamy combination 👍

Milky boneless gukbap generously filled with meat

The boneless gukbap's milky-white broth was ridiculously good...❤️ There was so much meat that it practically poured out with the very first spoonful—I could not stop marveling at it. The portions were generous overall, and the two of us left absolutely stuffed!

For late-night solo gukbap meals in Sinchon

This is one of Sinchon's rare signature gukbap restaurants open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The ingredients were incredibly generous, and being able to have a suyuk set at this price is such great value 👍 It felt like a truly good restaurant for solo diners. If you need breakfast, a hangover soup to settle your stomach, or simply want to eat alone comfortably, I recommend Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch!! A very strong recommendation!
