Apgujeong bakery: weekend breakfast at home with D loaf, Option Black
In short
Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black is a bakery café near Apgujeong Station Exit 3 in Gangnam, Seoul, that sells only fresh-cream loaves made with 100% dairy cream. For a weekend breakfast at home, the writer took out a buttery D loaf (₩8,000) and a jar of apple cinnamon jam and also bought S loaves as gifts. Pan-toasted at home, the Option Black D loaf stayed nutty and soft, good enough to eat with nothing on it.

What kind of bakery is Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black?

Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black (압구정생식빵옵션블랙) is a premium loaf bakery made with 100% animal-based fresh cream, and it's closest to Apgujeong Station Exit 3! It's near CGV. I've been going to this Apgujeong bakery a lot since earlier this year, and I wanted a morning with freshly baked loaf bread this coming Saturday, so I stopped by for the first time in a while.

The sign is a square loaf of saengsikppang (fresh-cream loaf bread). How are you even hanging up there? haha
What are the atmosphere and seating like?

The inside of Option Black is full of sunlight and has quite a lot of tables. Lots of people come in pairs, but I've also often seen groups of women come together! The other thing: the natural light inside is just ama-a-azing. The windows are made big and open, too! It's a perfect mood for brunch in Apgujeong.
Menu and prices at Option Black

I came to buy something to eat on the weekend in advance, so I decided to take it to go. The nutty smell of the loaves filled the whole shop, and I felt like tearing off a slice right there on the spot, but... T_T

- S loaf (plain, mild flavor) - ₩8,000
- D loaf (buttery flavor) - ₩8,000
- Sliced loaf - ₩2,000
And what does Option Black sell? Only loaf bread, seriously!!! That's how confident they are, I guess.

S loaf or D loaf: which should you pick?
There's the plain, mild S loaf and the buttery D loaf. I ate so much S loaf when they first opened that lately I'm hooked on the buttery D. One bag of D, let's go!!!

By the way, they also have coffee, tea and other drinks, just so you know. A slice of loaf with a fresh, hot americano~ just imagining it is killer, seriously.
What kinds of handmade jam and butter are there?
Option Black makes and sells its own handmade jam with organic raw cane sugar, in flavors like blackberry, strawberry butter jam and apple cinnamon. The butter is sold separately too, salted and unsalted.

Okay, time to pick a jam. Honestly, the bread here is delicious with nothing on it, you know? (It's true, I've eaten it more than three times.) But the weekend is the day that soothes a rough weekday, so I decided to pick one jam made with organic raw cane sugar.

There were lots of jams I wanted to try, like blackberry, strawberry butter jam and apple cinnamon. I chose apple cinnamon. It's a kind of jam you don't usually see, so I was really curious about the taste.

If you're someone who likes butter on bread more than jam, go for the butter. They sell salted and unsalted butter separately.

Eat in and you can toast your bread right away
Other info! When you eat inside Option Black, you can have really, truly fresh-toasted bread right away with a toaster like this. No wonder the shop smells insanely good~~~
What about gift packaging?
The packaging box at Option Black is shaped like a loaf of bread, so it's super cute and perfect as a gift.

My proof-of-purchase shot of the premium fresh-cream loaves made with 100% fresh cream! They packed it so neatly.

I also bought three S loaves as gifts for people around me ^.~
Is the takeout D loaf still good when toasted at home?
On Saturday morning I pan-toasted the D loaf I'd brought home over low heat. It's a bread with a little butter in it, so a nutty aroma rose up gently. It was oddly softer and slightly more buttery than the loaf eaten as is.

Saturday. I woke up late~~ and toasted the bread. Sadly my air fryer has passed away, so I just roughly toasted it in a pan over low heat, and maybe because it's a bread with a little butter in it, a nutty aroma rose up gently! On the side: eggs my mom cooked in her Auku (multi-cooker) and homemade iced coffee! Sounds like a mismatched combo, but there's no protein or carb I missed.

Pan-toasting definitely turned the bread a more golden color~~ One bite and the taste is almost the same as the plain loaf, but I could feel a subtle extra softness and, literally, a slight buttery flavor. So good, so good... isn't this the charm of a fresh-cream loaf? That it's delicious just as it is. Even chewing it really slowly, it's so tasty.

How does the apple cinnamon jam taste?
The apple cinnamon jam has more cinnamon than apple flavor, so I think opinions will be split, but it went really well with the americano. Still, I bought the jam, so let's spread some on too. The moment I opened the lid, a pleasantly sweet smell came up from the apple cinnamon jam! Maybe it's because I just love cinnamon..? Next time I should try French toast with this.
Wrap-up
Option Black is a hot spot already well loved by neighbors as a Dosan Park café and loaf bakery!! Next time I'll take a half day off in the morning, have brunch right in the shop, and then go to work!
