Yongin octopus restaurant with a hot pot set for two: Seokmuneo

In short

Seokmuneo Yongin Bojeong is a Korean restaurant specializing in stone octopus dishes on the Bojeong-dong café street in Yongin, Gyeonggi. The Octopus Jinsim Set for two brought shabu hot pot in a red broth, blanched stone octopus, boiled pork jowl and a stone octopus mushroom pancake to the table at once, with a bottle of soju alongside. At around 50,000 won for four octopus dishes, Seokmuneo Yongin Bojeong works well for dinner and a drink.

There are plenty of great restaurants on the Bojeong-dong café street, but places that really do octopus right are rare. Seokmuneo Yongin Bojeong, which I visited this time, is a Korean restaurant serving up all kinds of dishes made with stone octopus.

Table set with stone octopus dishes

From boiled octopus to seasoned octopus, stir-fry, and shabu hot pot — the range of cooking methods meant I could try all sorts of unusual octopus dishes in one sitting.

Thanks to the set menu, I got great value too — here's my review of an evening spent happily eating and drinking at this octopus specialist.

If it's your first visit, I'd recommend the set menu, and the lunch special beef-and-minari kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) is also a popular choice for anyone stopping by just for a meal.

What comes in the Octopus Jinsim Set for two

Full spread of the Octopus Jinsim Set for two

The portions in the 2-person set were really generous. It's made up of shabu hot pot + boiled octopus + boiled pork jowl + octopus mushroom pancake. Add noodles or porridge to the shabu hot pot and you can eat really well — great value for the price.

Shabu hot pot with a clean, refreshing red broth

Pot of red-broth shabu hot pot

The shabu hot pot at Seokmuneo comes in a choice of white or red broth. That day I was craving something spicy over mild, so I went with the red broth,

Shabu hot pot with blue crab, beef, and minari

and it came loaded with a whole blue crab, beef, minari (water dropwort), mushrooms, and clams. The refreshing seafood and savory beef came together for a deep, clean flavor I really liked.

The hot pot was great to dip into between bites of the octopus dishes — full of savory depth, I kept going back for more, and it was such a good pairing with drinks that we ordered another soju 😄

Blanched stone octopus and boiled pork jowl

The stone octopus had a texture that was both tender and chewy,

and the boiled pork jowl was clean and mild with no gamey smell.

Boiled pork jowl with radish salad side

The boiled octopus is best wrapped up with the gompi seaweed, ggosiraegi (sea string lettuce) and minari that come as sides, then dipped in the garlic oil sauce — top-tier!

Add chili or garlic to taste for even more flavor. Healthy and delicious ^^

If you want an even chewier texture, I'd also recommend dipping the octopus into the shabu hot pot for about 3 seconds.

The boiled pork jowl is a perfect match with the radish salad and shrimp sauce. Both the boiled octopus and boiled pork jowl pair beautifully with minari, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), and other sides for a variety of flavors — great as drinking snacks too. Eat the boiled octopus, then move on to the octopus mushroom pancake!!

Stone octopus mushroom pancake

Crispy on the outside, packed with mushrooms and octopus on the inside — really hearty texture.

Crispy octopus mushroom pancake

It's a bit on the oily side, but dipping it in the tangy sauce cuts through the richness while keeping it crispy — really delicious.

Wrap up some boiled octopus in gompi seaweed, take a bite of the crispy pancake, then a spoonful of the shabu hot pot~

Alternating bites of boiled octopus, pancake, and hot pot

and finish with the boiled pork jowl — with so many dishes to rotate through rather than just one or two, the Jinsim Set felt way more satisfying.

Leftover spread of the generous Octopus Jinsim Set

At first I was planning to add noodles to the shabu hot pot, but by the end we were too full to order any carbs and just wrapped up the meal.

Is the Octopus Jinsim Set worth 50,000 won?

Given today's prices, it's not easy to find a meal this filling and varied for around ₩50,000. The Octopus Jinsim Set at Seokmuneo, a well-loved spot on the Bojeong-dong café street, has generous portions and great food quality, so it felt like more than the price was worth.

Every dish was carefully prepared, fresh, and delicious, making for a really enjoyable meal. If you're looking for a good restaurant on the Bojeong-dong café street for a meal with a drink, I'd recommend this octopus specialist, Seokmuneo Bojeong.
