Yongin sashimi restaurant with folding-door open seats: Mr. Squid
In short
Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch is a raw fish (hoe) restaurant near the Bojeong-dong café street in Yongin, about a 10-minute walk from Jukjeon Station. Two of us ordered the squid and live fish sashimi set, eaten in a dining room thrown fully open by folding doors, so none of the fishy smell that raw fish restaurants can carry. Between the chewy squid sashimi and the fried items, steamed egg and seaweed soup that came with it, the set left two adults comfortably full.

My boyfriend and I really love raw fish, so we naturally end up at raw fish restaurants a lot when picking date spots. This time we visited Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch, and the taste, atmosphere, and service all lined up so well that we left completely satisfied. Let me walk you through it~
Where is Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch? 10 minutes on foot from Jukjeon Station
Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch, a favorite near the Bojeong-dong café street in Yongin, is about a 10-minute walk from Jukjeon Station. It's easy to reach by public transit, and since it sits near the romantic Bojeong-dong café street, the flow works great for a date — enjoy delicious raw fish, then head off to find a pretty café afterward. The perfect location for good food and a romantic mood at once! 👍🏻✨

Folding-door open seating: is there any fishy smell?
One thing I personally care about a lot when going to a raw fish restaurant is how pleasant the space feels, and Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch felt spotless the moment we walked in.

The restaurant runs on folding doors, so it operates as a completely open structure. With the cool breeze these days, it was a really nice atmosphere to sit and eat in, and probably because the ventilation is so good, there was zero trace of that fishy or musty smell you sometimes get at raw fish places — very pleasant. The interior was also spacious with generous table spacing, so it looked perfectly suited not just for dates but for family meals, group gatherings, or company dinners too.

The big fish tank at the entrance and the origin labels
Seeing the large fish tank set up near the entrance gave me confidence in the freshness.

I could see with my own eyes fresh fish and squid swimming around energetically inside the tank. It was kept clean too, so the freshness came through clearly through the glass.

On top of that, the origin of each menu item was clearly labeled, which gave me a lot of trust before I'd even eaten anything. A lot of places these days are vague about origin labeling, so having it laid out this transparently let me enjoy the meal with peace of mind. 😄

What comes with the squid and live fish sashimi set
Looking over the menu, just squid sashimi felt a little lacking, but just live fish sashimi felt like we'd be missing out too — after a long debate, we landed on the squid + live fish sashimi set so we could try both!!

After a short wait, the basic side dishes were set on the table. Every single one came out clean and neatly arranged, which did a great job of whetting our appetite.

On top of that, a fluffy-looking steamed egg and a warm, rich seaweed soup came included as standard, so the table already felt generously full before the main dish even arrived. Not just the main dish but the side dishes too were clearly made with care, which made me really happy.

The real value of the set menu shone through in what came next. Alongside the main squid sashimi and live fish sashimi, freshly fried food arrived too, making the whole spread feel substantial. When you're eating just sashimi, you inevitably start craving something crispy, and this perfectly timed crisp-outside-tender-inside fried food filled that gap — the balance of the meal was top notch!

How the squid sashimi and live fish sashimi tasted
It had been a while since I'd had squid sashimi, so my expectations were already high when I ordered it — and it exceeded them. That signature chewy-yet-soft texture of squid sashimi was alive and well, and the more I chewed, the more a subtle sweetness and nuttiness spread through my mouth. Thanks to that springy texture you only get from freshness, my chopsticks never got a break. 😋
The live fish sashimi served alongside was also incredibly fresh, with zero fishy smell or off taste — completely clean. The portion was just right for two adults to eat their fill! The thickness was well judged too, good for feeling that chewy texture, and whether dipped in soy sauce with a touch of wasabi or wrapped in lettuce with vinegar-chili sauce, it was a taste that made you go 'wow'!
While we spent a happy time soaking up the good food and atmosphere, the staff were kind and attentive, which made the meal even more pleasant.
