Juicy meat, grilled for you, in a place with a lovely atmosphere. Today I'm introducing Go Ok-hui (고옥희), a Korean BBQ restaurant in Hwamyeong-dong, Busan. You don't have to grill the meat yourself, and you don't have to worry about your clothes smelling of meat. And the meat comes out so juicy! The atmosphere is great too, so I'd recommend it for group get-togethers.

What are the seating and atmosphere like inside?

The inside of Go Ok-hui Hwamyeong Main Branch is clean, with soft lighting, and the seating is mostly tables for four. It was a good fit for a family meal or a get-together with friends, and also for a company dinner with coworkers.

Best of all, you don't have to grill the meat yourself. It's easier to focus on the conversation, and your clothes don't pick up the smell, which is even better! If you want to enjoy meat comfortably in a nice setting, or you're looking for a place for a group, I recommend Go Ok-hui in Hwamyeong-dong.
Go Ok-hui Hanpan (for 2): price and happy hour

What I ordered that day was the Go Ok-hui Hanpan (set for 2, ₩37,500). It comes with grilled pork belly, seasoned pork skin, and vegetables that go well with the meat, all grilled before it reaches your table.

Also, I'm told that if you visit during happy hour, 17:00–18:00 Monday to Thursday, you get one bottle of Baekseju (a traditional herbal rice wine) free!
Go Ok-hui side dishes and what comes with the tortilla wraps

The basic side dishes at Go Ok-hui in Hwamyeong-dong are a nice variety: seasoned scallion salad, myeongina-namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), ssam-mu (pickled radish wraps), chili peppers and garlic, plus ssamjang (dipping paste) and shiitake mushroom sauce. All of them go well with the meat.

They also give you black olives and a sauce so you can wrap the meat in tortillas.

The Go Ok-hui Hanpan also comes with bracken and white kimchi
Besides the pork belly and seasoned pork skin, the Go Ok-hui Hanpan comes with chives, well-cooked bracken (gosari, fernbrake) and white kimchi, and the meat is neatly presented too. Bracken and white kimchi are two of my usual favorite sides with meat, so I loved this.

A neat spread that makes you happy just looking at it

Go Ok-hui's rice is freshly cooked in the restaurant
Looking at the nicely grilled meat, I wanted it with hot rice, so I ordered a bowl right away.

On one side of the restaurant, rice cookers were busily cooking rice. With freshly cooked rice, how could it not be good!

Doesn't grilled-then-served pork belly turn tough quickly?
Go Ok-hui's pork belly stays juicy for a long time even though it comes already grilled. The induction burner on the table keeps it warm and moist.
Putting a piece of meat on top of hot rice was seriously, seriously delicious. The meat was so juicy that I was amazed! Since it comes grilled, I worried it would turn tough quickly, but that worry was pointless, because it stayed juicy for a looong time.

Go Ok-hui's pork belly, moist and tender, is great with soft, chewy bracken, and even better with white kimchi cooked in the pork fat.

Put pork belly and a black olive on a tortilla, add the sauce and wrap it up, and it tastes different from the usual meat wraps. Looking at it again, my mouth is watering.

How is Go Ok-hui's seasoned pork skin?
Go Ok-hui's seasoned pork skin was well grilled and chewy, with plenty of sauce spread on it. I ate it in between bites of the pork.

A little spicy and sweet, with a taste that reminded me of dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken) sauce. I liked that the Go Ok-hui Hanpan lets you enjoy everything from pork belly to seasoned pork skin in one go.

Go Ok-hui even provides mouthwash and floss after the meal
Go Ok-hui Hwamyeong Main Branch has mouthwash, toothpicks, floss, candy and even yogurt drinks ready for after your meal. So thoughtful.
At Go Ok-hui I could enjoy juicy, tasty meat without grilling it myself. It's a clean place with a nice atmosphere, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a spot for a get-together with friends or a family meal. Go Ok-hui, a great BBQ place in Hwamyeong-dong: recommended, and recommended again.
