What kind of gukbap restaurant is Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch?

Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch (무보까국밥 감삼점) is a gukbap restaurant on Dangsan-ro in Duryu-dong (Gamsam-dong), Dalseo-gu, Daegu. They say the broth is made from 100% beef bone and water with no additives at all. They apparently even hold a patent for their bone broth, which is supposedly hard to get ჱ̒˶ー̀֊ー́ )

With the weather getting chillier, I was craving something hot🍂 I wanted a meal that's warm and filling, and that meant Korea's soul food..! Gukbap (rice soup)! So I went to Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch🍲 The broth was really deep and rich, with that nutty bone-broth flavor, and it left an impression👏🏻 On top of that, they're running a 5th-anniversary event all through October, so if you're planning a visit, definitely check it out!

What's on the menu at Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch?

The menu covers filling gukbap dishes: pork gukbap, eolkeun gukbap (spicy gukbap), offal gukbap, tteokgalbi set (grilled short rib patty), soft tofu gukbap, dogani-tang (beef knee cartilage soup) and galbi-tang (short rib soup)🍲

They also sell bossam (boiled pork wraps), sundae jeongol (blood sausage hotpot), budae-jjigae (army stew) and other meals that go well with a drink🍶 It seems like a good place for solo meals, family dinners or drinks with friends☺️

They sell naengmyeon (cold noodles) too!

The restaurant says it makes its kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) from domestic ingredients by hand every morning🥬 Knowing they're domestic made it easier to eat with confidence, and maybe because they make it fresh, both the kimchi and kkakdugi were crunchy and tasty!

Notice that domestic kimchi and kkakdugi are made in-house

⭐️ Korea's first registered bone broth patent ⭐️ Maybe because the broth is made from 100% beef bone and water, it was clean yet deep and rich, which really stood out👍🏻

There's a receipt review event going on too, so do join in🙂

₩3,000 drinks and the 5th-anniversary deals at Mubokka Gukbap

Alcohol here is a whopping ₩3,000🍶 Restaurants selling drinks at ₩3,000 these days are really rare (ㅠㅠㅠ)! It's an easy price for a bowl of gukbap with a glass of soju, so it's perfect for a budget-friendly drink👍🏻

🎉 There's a special 5th-anniversary event too! All October, pork gukbap is ₩1,000 off, so ₩8,000🍲 The discounted price applies to only one bowl per table, though. In return, if two people order, you get a free drink or a bottle of soju, so keep that in mind!

With prices these days, getting a filling bowl of gukbap for ₩8,000 plus a free drink or soju for two diners makes this a thrifty anniversary event👍🏻

Atmosphere and the unlimited offal self-serve bar

The interior is decorated in wood tones, so the overall feel was warm and comfortable. It's neat yet cozy, good for eating alone or with family or friends.

There's a self-bar by the kitchen where you can help yourself to extra side dishes. Kimchi isn't at the self-bar, though; ask the staff and they'll bring it over!

Ordering the 1-person suyuk set and spicy eolkeun gukbap

This day I ordered the 1-person suyuk set (suyuk is boiled sliced pork) (1.9, meaning ₩19,000) and the eolkeun gukbap (0.95, meaning ₩9,500).

Table set for the 1-person suyuk set and eolkeun gukbap

Side dishes were neatly laid out: chives, kkakdugi, kimchi, onion, chili peppers, garlic and ssam (wrap) vegetables.

While waiting for the food, I brought some sundae and offal from the self-bar. Chewy, springy sundae~~ It's great as a quick snack before the gukbap arrives🤤

The 1-person suyuk set comes with pork gukbap plus suyuk. Looks filling just from the picture, right? 👍🏻

Suyuk in the 1-person set: pork belly that day

The suyuk in the 1-person set comes with mumalaengi (dried radish strips). Even though it's part of a set, the portion was sizable🤩 Normally the 1-person set comes with front leg suyuk, but the front leg had sold out that day, so they served pork belly suyuk instead. The soft, rich flavor of pork belly with the mumalaengi had a nice texture and went well together😋

How much meat is in the pork gukbap?

Just look at how much meat is in the pork gukbap here . . I was seriously surprised by how generous it is~ It's not a gukbap that's mostly broth; there's plenty of meat, so even one bowl fills you up🍲 There are glass noodles in it too, so fishing out meat and noodles is fun and makes it even more generous😋

I added chives, saeujeot (salted shrimp) and dadaegi (seasoned chili paste) to make the gukbap even tastier🤭

With no additives, the bone broth was really clean and nutty👍🏻

I also wrapped the suyuk slice by slice in ssam, and it was really filling. The meat was tender with no gamey or funky smell at all, so I enjoyed it without any hesitation. With the mumalaengi, the crunchy texture went really well with the suyuk!

Is the spicy eolkeun gukbap good for a hangover?

The eolkeun gukbap is cooler-tasting, spicy and sharp compared with regular pork gukbap, and with one spoonful of broth my stomach felt instantly relieved. I highly recommend it if you want hot soup for a hangover or want gukbap with a drink👍🏻

The eolkeun gukbap came loaded with bean sprouts. From meat to bean sprouts, the ingredients at Mubokka are crazy👍🏻 If you like hearty gukbap, one bowl should fill you up🍲

Parking and toilets at Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch

For parking, use the lot behind the restaurant🚗 It isn't very large, so keep that in mind when you visit.

The toilets are right outside the restaurant🚻 There's no toilet paper provided, though, so bring your own~

Who should try Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch in Daegu?

If a hot bowl of gukbap sounds good on a chilly day, I recommend Mubokka Gukbap Gamsam Branch in Duryu-dong, Daegu🍲🤎 It's near Gwangjang Core so it's easy to get to, and the warm, comfortable atmosphere made it a nice place to eat. From the deep, rich broth made with 100% beef bone and water to the generous meat and ingredients, it was a filling meal overall!

Alcohol is ₩3,000 too, so it's an easy place for an evening drink with gukbap or side dishes. The owner was bright and kind, so I stayed in a good mood throughout the meal☺️ The 5th-anniversary event runs all October, so if you're visiting, do check the event details! ૮ ฅ•ᴥ•აฅ
