Jincheon-dong, Daegu hanjeongsik with flame-grilled pork: Geumdeungeo

Today I went to dinner at Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch, a Jincheon-dong restaurant I often visit for family meals. Neat, tidy banchan (side dishes) and a mackerel set grilled in a wood oven for extra savory flavor 🫶🏻 Here's my satisfied review!

Where is Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch, and is there parking?

Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch, a Jincheon-dong favorite in Daegu, is a 6-minute walk from Jincheon Station Exit 4, near Wolbae E-mart and the Raon Private Centum apartments. It's in the Jincheon Mat Town alley, so it's easy to find, and there's store parking if you're driving :)

You can use parking on floors 1, 3, and 4. Sometimes finding a spot is the hard part when eating out with family, but parking at Geumdeungeo was so easy — great for both family dinners and group gatherings.

What the Geumdeungeo dining room feels like

Being a popular Wolseong-dong hanjeongsik spot, it was packed with customers in the evening,,! The interior was white-toned and clean, and the tables were nice and big. Seats were spaced apart and separated too, perfect for a quiet meal 🙂

Some grilled fish places have that fishy smell, but this place had none of that — I didn't have to worry about the smell sticking to my clothes.

Here's the Geumdeungeo menu~ From the Geumdeungeo set with wood-oven mackerel to the pork set that every Korean loves, plus hanwoo bulgogi and dried yellow corvina sets — the menu is varied enough that it works even if you're with kids or people who don't like fish.

Self-serve banchan bar with unlimited refills

Once you order, the banchan comes out quickly, and every single one is a labor-intensive Korean side dish 🫶🏻 fried eggplant, seasoned lotus root, seasoned bellflower root, kimchi, chwinamul (aster greens), seasoned radish, seed jeotgal (salted seafood), gim (seaweed), japchae, and salad — all of it goes perfectly with rice.

So many banchan and they're all good — older family members would love this! I could eat a whole bowl of rice with just these.

And every banchan is unlimited refill from the self-serve bar! They were so good I refilled several times myself. Staff kept managing the self-serve bar too, so it stayed clean and hygienic.

Wood-fired mackerel and the pot rice set

With so many customers, I thought it'd take a while, but the mackerel, rice, and pork stir-fry came out fast. The freshly grilled mackerel was placed on an induction burner, so it stayed warm and delicious till the end. It comes with nuruk salt, and the staff kindly explained how to eat it together.

This is the geundae (chard) doenjang soup that comes standard. I let it simmer and ate it bubbling hot — the broth was clear and the chard was cooked through nicely, so tasty haha

Order the Geumdeungeo set and you get pot rice instead of plain rice by default! Being freshly cooked, the rice grains were plump and tasty even on their own. Chickpeas were mixed in too, so it's packed with nutrition~

The grilled mackerel was cooked for 5 minutes at 400 degrees in the wood oven, so it had zero fishy taste, was full of juice, and the flesh was so moist…😍 The skin side was crispy while the flesh was so tender. I usually can't handle fishy flavors, but this wasn't fishy at all — just savory!!

I put a piece of mackerel on a spoonful of rice like this and it was so good 🥰 It's seasoned already so it's tasty on its own, but dipping it lightly in the low-sodium nuruk salt and eating it with rice adds even more flavor~

Flame-grilled pork add-on and large-slice beef jeon

This is the pork stir-fry I added as a side dish. It's moderately spicy-sweet with a nice kick!

This is also a Jincheon-dong restaurant that does great pork stir-fry. Since it's flame-grilled pork, there's a subtle smoky flavor, and the green onions and vegetables were cooked to a nice sweetness~ A flavor anyone from kids to adults would enjoy.

This is the pork jeon included in the set. I thought it'd be beef jeon but it was actually pork jeon. Coated in egg wash and pan-fried, it was even more savory haha I usually prefer beef jeon, but the pork version was a nice change and pretty good too 🙌🏻

After finishing the rice, rice cake came out too. It's colorful with beans dotted throughout, so pretty right? Sweet and fluffy, perfect for cleansing the palate as dessert~

The various banchan, rice cake, and mackerel can all be packed to go too, so it'd be great for eating with family during Chuseok holidays~

Is Geumdeungeo worth it for a family dinner?

If you're looking for a great Wolseong-dong hanjeongsik restaurant for a family meal this holiday, I recommend Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch! With so many delicious banchan and mackerel that's even better for being wood-oven grilled, I was completely satisfied at this Jincheon-dong, Daegu spot. I want to come back with my family :)
