Namyangju's tomato-jang pork belly restaurant

Atmosphere at this Namyangju tomato-jang pork belly restaurant

Today I want to introduce a Namyangju restaurant I ate at really happily while out for some fresh air near Seoul. It's called 2002 Witch's Arpeggio, located by Myojeoksa Valley. This isn't the kind of place you stumble into on the way somewhere — it feels more like a getaway spot you make a special trip to for the valley view and the standout menu!

Parking at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio

What I loved right away was the large dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so there's zero worry about parking even on weekends or with the whole family.

Outdoor tables beside Myojeoksa Valley creek

The interior was also spacious and kept clean, but the real charm of 2002 Witch's Arpeggio is the outdoor seating right next to the creek! Visiting now that the noisy summer rush has passed, I could fully take in the cool, clean breeze off the valley, the babbling water, and even birdsong — it felt so much more relaxed and healing. The mood changes with the seasons, so it's also perfect as a fall drive-out spot.

You can eat an amazing meal while looking at the cool creek and listening to birds and running water haha.

The inside of the restaurant is also very clean and spacious!

Inside, there are rows of jars of the restaurant's own 48-hour aged tomato-jang sauce*_*

The signature tomato-jang pork belly pairs well with the potato pancake, and there's also a wide range of drinks and beverages.

Tomato-jang pork belly: 40,000 won for 2 servings

Table setting with 48-hour jar-aged tomato-jang pork belly

The signature dish at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio isn't the usual gochujang pork belly — it's their 'tomato-jang pork belly,' developed over 25 years and aged 48 hours in jars!

We ordered the tomato-jang pork belly for two people, which came to ₩40,000!

Generous basic side dishes served with the meal

The basic side dishes also came out generously, and they paired nicely with the meal.

The tomato kimchi in particular was delicious! Bright and tangy, with an amazing depth of savory flavor.

How does the new tomato-jang kalguksu taste?

Here's the new menu item: tomato-jang kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup).

The new tomato-jang kalguksu noodle soup

The new tomato-jang kalguksu had incredibly chewy, springy noodles. The broth had a subtle, clean tomato seasoning flavor — not overpowering, but with a charming way of resetting your palate.

At first, tomato and pork belly seemed like an odd pairing, but the tomato-jang completely cuts through the greasiness of the meat while adding a clean, deep savoriness.

The pork belly itself was really plump, moist and tender inside. Right as the meat was nearly done, a staff member came by with a torch and gave it one more open-flame finish — and the smoky char that came through was truly something else.

Potato pancake, 25,000 won: crisp outside, soft inside

The golden-brown potato pancake was visually stunning. The outside was extremely crispy while the inside stayed satisfyingly chewy — the textbook definition of crispy-outside, chewy-inside. It costs ₩25,000.

Crispy-outside, chewy-inside potato pancake with special sauce

A nutty, savory flavor fills your mouth, and dipping it lightly in the special sauce it comes with brings out a smile.

Pairing it with the crunchy mung bean sprouts served alongside doubled the texture, and there was also a nice variety of wrap greens — lettuce, pickled radish, cabbage and more — so it was fun mixing and matching to taste.

After the delicious pork belly and potato pancake, there's still one more course you have to try!

The must-order finish: cauldron pollack roe fried rice, 5,000 won

The essential final course: cauldron pollack roe fried rice. It's ₩5,000, and the portion is genuinely huge for the price — great value.

The final highlight is the cauldron pollack roe fried rice. You flip over the hourglass timer set on the table and mix it up five minutes later. It really does come out in a cauldron, so it stays warm all the way to the last bite — which I really appreciated.

It's packed generously with large chunks of pollack roe and savory cheese — pure savory bliss! I highly recommend wrapping it in the seaweed served alongside.
