Yangyang barbecue restaurant lunch with rice and naengmyeon: Yeoyejeong

In short

Yeoyejeong is a barbecue restaurant in Seomyeon, Yangyang, Gangwon, where I stopped for lunch with my family during our summer vacation. We ordered meat sotbap, meat naengmyeon, and steamed egg; the firm rice and tender seasoned meat stood out, while the very cold dining room may not suit everyone.

Before heading to our summer vacation destination, I stopped at Yeoyejeong with my family for lunch. We did not have time to grill meat because we had afternoon plans, so we ordered meat sotbap (rice cooked in a pot), meat naengmyeon (cold noodles), and steamed egg to share with the children.

Where is Yeoyejeong, and is parking easy?

Yeoyejeong is at 49 Ssangsolbaegi-gil, Seomyeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea. It was on a quiet road and not difficult to find.

We could park directly in front of the restaurant. The space was large, so parking was easy. There was also a restaurant shuttle bus, which I thought would be useful for group visits.

We parked in front of the restaurant and went inside. It was convenient for stopping by for lunch during our summer vacation.

The hours listed in the original post are 11:30–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00. The regular closing day is every Tuesday.

What is the dining space like for families and groups?

The dining room was spacious, and the air-conditioning was cold enough to feel chilly. There was also a separate room for a group of up to 24 people. Since it had its own entrance, I thought it would be good for a group to dine together.

There was a clean indoor restroom beside the entrance.

At the time of my visit, the middle of the restaurant had a prize-draw event for customers who wrote a review. The prizes included squishy toys, rings, bracelets, and stickers, so children might find it interesting too.

What did we order for lunch?

I looked over the menu and price list. The lunch specials included sotbap, meat, naengmyeon, galbitang (beef short-rib soup), and kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew).

We ordered meat sotbap, meat naengmyeon, and steamed egg. The banchan (side dishes) that arrived first were neatly presented and clean-tasting. The owner said that the side dishes and baek kimchi (white kimchi) are made in-house, using ingredients farmed in Yangyang and buying any needed ingredients at Yangyang Market.

I also heard about the grilled-meat menu. They said they use salt-aged fresh pork, and prepare their seasoned galbi by slicing the meat themselves and marinating it. We were also told that they use binchotan charcoal made from coffee trees, but we did not get to try the grilled dishes because of our afternoon plans.

How was the seasoned meat served with the meat sotbap?

The bean sprout soup served with the meat sotbap was pleasantly spicy and refreshing.

My spouse and I usually enjoy sotbap. The rice that day was glossy and pleasantly firm, which I liked.

The seasoned meat served alongside it was thick yet tender. Although it was a side to the meal, it felt like the main dish to me, and I liked the seasoning too.

Adding wasabi brought out the flavor of the meat even more. The chive salad, which I like, also went well with it.

How were the naengmyeon and steamed egg we shared with the children?

What I remember most about the naengmyeon was the springy, chewy texture of the gomchwi noodles.

The steamed egg we ordered for the children was fluffy, with a castella-cake-like texture. It suited my taste as well as theirs. With the sotbap, naengmyeon, and steamed egg, our whole family had a satisfying lunch.
