Galbi dipped in tteokbokki broth at Baengnyeon Galbi, Jangyu, Gimhae

In short

Baengnyeon Galbi Jangyu is a pork and beef galbi (Korean BBQ ribs) restaurant on Jangyu-ro 334beon-gil in Gimhae, Gyeongnam. Two sisters ordered the galbi set for 2-3 people at 65,000 won, which brings seasoned king galbi, seasoned pork neck steak and seasoned beef galbi, plus free seonjitguk (ox blood soup) and soupy tteokbokki (rice cakes in spicy broth). Dipping the grilled galbi into the tteokbokki broth was the best move of the meal, and the complimentary sides at Baengnyeon Galbi are as good as the meat.

Store information for Baengnyeon Galbi Jangyu

I'd been searching for a galbi restaurant in Jangyu, and the 2-3 person galbi set we ordered that day was really delicious. My sister loved it too, so I was glad we came. 😊

What does Baengnyeon Galbi Jangyu look like? Blue interior and a private group room

Walking into Baengnyeon Galbi Jangyu, the space was bigger and cleaner than I expected. You'd normally picture a casual, laid-back atmosphere at a meat restaurant, but here the calm blue walls paired with white wainscoting and wall lamps gave it an upscale, polished look, and the tables were spaced generously — a great first impression.

What I especially liked was the private group room you can book exclusively. It would be great for family meals, but also for gatherings with friends or work dinners with several people.

What comes in the 65,000-won galbi set for 2-3 people?

🥩 What we ordered: the 2-3 person galbi set Seasoned king galbi 400g, seasoned pork neck steak 400g, seasoned beef galbi 2 pieces — the best value composition!

Table setup for the 2-3 person galbi set at Baengnyeon Galbi Jangyu

We didn't hesitate to order the 2-3 person galbi set. It came out with a hearty, well-rounded lineup of galbi and other cuts, plenty of food for two. Baengnyeon Galbi apparently developed its special seasoning over a long period of research to bring out the meat's natural flavor. Grilling it ourselves, the tender premium meat and the house seasoning came together beautifully, filling my mouth with rich flavor. My sister, who lives in Jangyu, loved it too — I felt so proud for having picked this place. 😊

Tasting it straight off the grill, the meat was tender and the seasoning wasn't overpowering, with a nice savory depth — exactly to my taste.

My sister enjoyed it too, which made the meal even more fun.

Two ways to eat galbi with the perilla-garlic soy sauce

🌿 A bite of meat taken to another level with Baengnyeon Galbi's own perilla-garlic soy sauce

As a wrap: I piled the pungent, salty perilla-garlic soy sauce generously onto a fresh perilla leaf (kkaennip), topped it with nicely grilled meat and pickled garlic, and wrapped it all up into a full bite. The perilla's fragrance, the meat's juices, and the soy sauce's savoriness came together in perfect harmony.

As a dip: just a quick dab of the chopped chili-garlic soy sauce on a piece of grilled meat for an easy bite! Clean and savory with a bit of heat, it cuts right through the richness and keeps you reaching for more.

Based on how I felt eating here that day, this is a place I'd recommend to anyone looking for good pork galbi in Jangyu.

Free seonjitguk (ox blood soup) as good as a specialty shop's

But it turned out Baengnyeon Galbi wasn't just about the meat. The complimentary blood sausage soup (seonjiguk) was surprisingly impressive.

I usually think of the soup that comes free at a galbi restaurant as just an afterthought, but this one tasted rich yet refreshing, like something from a dedicated seonjiguk restaurant.

Between bites of meat, a warm spoonful of seonjiguk cleansed the palate nicely and paired well.

Dipping grilled galbi in soupy tteokbokki: the best bite of the meal

Personally, the free side dish I remember most from that day was the rice cake soup in broth (guk-mul tteokbokki). It's not very spicy, but it has a taste that keeps pulling you back. I kept reaching for one piece after another while eating the meat. 😋

Later on I tried something a little different — I lightly dipped a piece of grilled meat into the rice cake soup broth, and surprisingly, it was really good.

The sweetness of the seasoned galbi combined with the spicy-sweet broth made for a whole new combination. Honestly, I felt like the rice cake soup was Baengnyeon Galbi's secret weapon. I didn't expect a complimentary menu item at a meat restaurant to stick in my memory like this. 😊

Self-serve side dish bar: take as much as you want

Another convenient perk during the meal was the self-serve bar. When you run low on kimchi or other side dishes while eating meat, it's nice to just grab more yourself.

You don't have to keep asking staff every time — you can just take as much as you want, so the flow of the meal doesn't get interrupted. Meat, a variety of side dishes, and a self-serve bar together made for a really comfortable meal.

I came with my sister this time, but the clean, upscale atmosphere made me think it'd also be a comfortable spot for anyone looking for a pork galbi restaurant for a date in Jangyu.

It's a solid choice if you want delicious galbi in a place with a bit more atmosphere than a typical casual meat restaurant. Of course, it also works well for family meals or gatherings with friends.

Private group room suitable for gatherings

With a private group room available too, it would work well for get-togethers with several people.
