I went to an amazing restaurant... haha, seriously, so so satisfied. The vibe is great and they grill everything for you, so it's a solid date spot or anniversary dinner too~ (take me again next time!) If you can't eat lamb, they have beef too, so definitely check it out!

Where Nokji Magok Main Branch is and when it opens

Nokji Magok Main Branch is a lamb and beef charcoal grill restaurant near Balsan Station, at 247 Gonghang-daero, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, Queens Park Nine Building B, Unit 131, South Korea. It's open daily from 16:00 to 22:00.

I made a reservation and visited on a Sunday evening! The entrance already gives off such a luxe feeling, right? I eat lamb skewers often, but it had been a while since I had lamb chops, so I was full of excitement.

Full even on a Sunday: why you need a reservation at Nokji

The interior isn't huge, but it was full on a Sunday evening in Magok... If you're a Gangseo local, you'll know how impressive it is for Magok/Balsan to be fully booked on a Sunday. It's a business district area where many places don't even open on Sundays, yet this place was packed..... If you're planning to visit Nokji, make sure to book ahead! I thought 'it's Sunday, should be fine, right??' but that logic doesn't seem to work with Nokji. Since I'd reserved in advance, the table was already neatly set when we arrived, which made me happy haha.

Nokji specializes in beef and lamb charcoal grilling, so both are on the menu! They don't just grill raw meat — everything is dry-aged with Nokji's own timing and technique. We were craving lamb today, so we ordered a shoulder rack and a French rack, one serving each, but there's also a beef + lamb set for anyone who wants beef too!

They also have a really varied drinks menu! Traditional liquor, wine, whiskey, highballs, and more. After debating, we decided lamb chops call for gaoliang liquor and beer, so that's what we ordered! If you're visiting for an anniversary date, it might be nice to bring your favorite drink too! They run a free corkage event for one bottle if you use a Naver coupon! Free corkage is rare these days, you know? Handy tip!

Gaoliang and beer after a long while... you gulp it down and before you know it, you've lost track. Especially with lamb chops, it's so delicious you barely feel the alcohol... They also sell Suntory draft beer, so if you're not much of a drinker, draft or a highball would work well too. Please don't skip the drinks with this delicious food, everyone, please.

Table setting and the mood inside Nokji Magok Main Branch

Here's the basic table setting! Nokji really has a great atmosphere. The lighting and interior are just right — not too dark, not too bright, very upscale. The tableware is neatly arranged too, all set up to go well with lamb chops! The white kimchi is seriously so good...

Magok's go-to restaurant Nokji grills the meat like this! There's zero smell in the restaurant, so your clothes don't end up smelling! Huge plus.

Our lamb chops finally arrived haha... the color, is this even real... I gasped the moment I saw it. Shoulder rack, French rack. I don't eat lamb chops that often, but when I get a craving I do eat it now and then, and out of all the lamb chops I've had, Nokji is #1.

They grilled the French rack first! At restaurants where staff grill for you, sometimes different staff take turns, right? At Nokji, one person is dedicated and takes care of it from start to finish! All the staff seem genuinely passionate about the meat... they're all so good at grilling...

After resting the meat, the staff suddenly appeared and ground some salt over it. Kewra crystal salt?? The name was hard so my boyfriend wrote it down haha. Apparently it's Himalayan salt. +1 point for luxury.

How the French rack tastes: no gamey smell, melts in the mouth

It was so fun just watching them grill so skillfully, but the taste matters more, right? Everyone, this is seriously insane. The French rack is a beast. Gamey smell?? This lamb feels like it never even had one since birth. None at all, genuinely soft, it just melts away in your mouth... I can guarantee even first-timers with lamb chops would like this without exception. My boyfriend and I both declared it the top dish we've had recently, completely awestruck.

Sides served between rounds: truffle oil egg sauce and mashed potato

Nokji, Magok's go-to lamb restaurant, never lets your mouth get bored...! Right as we were savoring the French rack, they suddenly brought out truffle oil egg sauce! They told us to dip the vegetables and meat deeply into it, and oh my, that was heaven again... I'm not usually a fan of truffle or raw egg sauces, but whatever combination this is... even just dipping the vegetables in it felt like eating a whole dish.

Shoulder rack and grilling the bone at Nokji

After the intense encounter with the French rack, they grilled the shoulder rack! The vegetables grilled alongside the meat are really delicious too. If you run low on vegetables, ask the staff and they'll grill more for you!

Before grilling the French rack, they asked whether we wanted some meat left on the bone or fully separated into pure meat. We asked them to leave meat on the bone since gnawing it off is half the fun... the bone-grilling was flawless too, right?

Suddenly, while we were eating away, mashed potato appeared... this thing is a marvel too... is there anything at Nokji that isn't a marvel? It wraps the lamb so smoothly, so delicious...

After grilling the shoulder rack, they suddenly made another dish. Seriously... 0-0 They told us to wrap it with basil and three sprigs of cheese-minari, and the flavor was insane... What makes Nokji genuinely charming is that lamb can normally get heavy to eat a lot of, but with the harmony of constantly new sauces and sides, my palate never got tired or greasy... Seriously, the drinks just kept flowing.

Adding the limited raw lamb loin at Nokji Magok

Still lost in the glory of the French rack and shoulder rack, we thought about ordering more but decided to try something different, so we added the limited-menu raw lamb loin, one serving! Apparently the lamb loin has great texture and umami, but since it's a limited item, it might not always be available!

Plate of raw limited-menu lamb loin

The Nokji staff really grill so well. They seriously seem like they have a meat-grilling certification.

The raw lamb loin has a really rich meaty aroma...! But since I personally prefer softer textures, my top pick of the day was the French rack... My boyfriend said the raw lamb loin was his number one. As we kept eating enthusiastically, they even gave us a newly developed? sauce to try. We figured, it's only three servings of meat, how full could we possibly get? But we were genuinely stuffed... There was a pollack roe scallion rice side dish I wanted to try but truly couldn't fit it in... It's really, really that delicious. Fifty million times over, seriously.
