Oneul Haru near the Gagyeong-dong terminal
A Cheongju Gagyeong-dong favorite I visited last weekend! Oneul Haru is a place where you can have a neat, well-set meal with stone-pot rice—so delicious and perfect for a filling lunch 🤤
⏰ Hours 11:00–22:00 / Last order 21:00

Oneul Haru is near the Gagyeong-dong terminal, so it is easy to get to. It is in the alley right in front of the Chevrolet building beside Hana Hospital! I found a perfect street-parking spot and headed in.

First, you can take a quick look at the menu outside. The individual stone-pot rice sets are served so nicely, making this such a great spot for a simple lunch!

Wood-toned interior and a generous self-serve bar
Inside Oneul Haru, a Korean restaurant in Gagyeong-dong! The wood-toned interior feels cozy and warm. Beyond the area you see as soon as you enter, there is a larger seating area to the left too! I also loved that there were private seats with individual partitions 👏🏻

One great thing about Oneul Haru is that its self-serve bar is more varied than I expected!! Beyond the side dishes that come with your order, there are even more things prepared. There is fried food and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), too!!! Isn't that such a bargain? 💗💗💗

Ordering gondeure stone-pot rice and gochujang bulgogi stone-pot rice
Here is the menu at Oneul Haru! Its signature dish is the LA galbi set, and there are grilled fish stone-pot rice sets, gochujang bulgogi stone-pot rice sets, gondeure stone-pot rice sets, buckwheat soba, pork cutlet, and more! Everything comes as a set, so you get a tidy full spread~!
<What we ordered> Gondeure stone-pot rice set Gochujang bulgogi stone-pot rice set

Stone-pot rice piled high with gondeure
First up was the gondeure stone-pot rice set!! I had originally wanted to try the signature LA galbi set, but it was sold out! So I ordered one of the most basic sets instead, the gondeure stone-pot rice~ The stone pot was generously topped with gondeure (Korean thistle greens); you transfer it to the extra bowl and mix it up before eating.

Gochujang bulgogi that was just right, not spicy
And this was the gochujang bulgogi stone-pot rice set!! It is similar to the gondeure stone-pot rice set, but comes with added gochujang bulgogi and wrap vegetables. This gochujang bulgogi was seriously delicious!!!!!! 🤤🤤

The basic side dishes were mushrooms, zucchini, anchovies, cabbage dongchimi (water kimchi), and gim (roasted seaweed)! For a huge Korean-food lover like me, these were the best sides. If you need more, you can grab them at the self-serve bar 🤭

And hot miyeokguk (seaweed soup) comes in a mini earthenware pot too~~~! It had plenty of seaweed in it and the seasoning was just right, so it was sooo good with a hot meal 🥹🥹

Finish with hot-water scorched-rice tea
Pour hot water into the emptied stone-pot rice bowl, then have the sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) at the very end~ Eating it this way leaves you seriously, seriously full, which I absolutely love haha.

Mix the gondeure rice with the soy-sauce seasoning that comes with it. Then wrap it in gim???? It is seriously delicious, I am telling youㅠㅠ Since it is plain roasted seaweed, it goes so well with the soy seasoning, and wrapping up gondeure bibimbap (mixed rice) like this is just an unbeatable combo, right~😭😭💗

Then I topped it with gochujang bulgogi too! The bulgogi was not spicy, just perfectly seasoned, and had a slight charcoal-grilled flavor, so so delicious ㅠㅠ The vegetables were super fresh too—the full, packed flavor in every bite was crazy☺️☺️☺️☺️

And then, the real real final course: the sungnyung made from the scorched rice I had left soaking in water!!! The rice was wonderfully golden and crisp, which made it even better 🤭 Whenever I go to my grandmother's house, I always have sungnyung after a meal, so as a Korean-food lover, I absolutely love an individual stone-pot rice set that finishes like this…😇😇
Oneul Haru, a Korean restaurant near the Gagyeong-dong terminal in Cheongju, serves easy individual sets that are comfortable to enjoy. The basic sides were delicious, and you can have hot soup and sungnyung too! I highly recommend it for lunch in Gagyeong-dong😎
