Three of us got together to celebrate a special day! We decided to have drinks in Jongno, but this time I didn't want just another regular grill house or izakaya — I wanted good sashimi with our drinks. So we went to Suksseong Susan. I'd been once before and trusted it enough to go back. If you're looking for a group dinner spot or a restaurant with private rooms, I really recommend checking this place out.
Where is Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch? 5 minutes from Jongak Station Exit 4

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is about a 5-minute walk from Jongak Station Exit 4, near Jongak's Youth Street, so it gets especially crowded on weekends. If you're planning to go, I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time!

You reach the restaurant right after climbing the stairs. The sign saying it's an aged sashimi specialty restaurant was so cute.
Inside Suksseong Susan: partitioned tables with curtains

Once inside, it was much cozier than I expected!
What I liked most was that each table has a partition and curtain, so you're somewhat separated from the next table. Rather than feeling like a busy, noisy sashimi joint, it had the kind of atmosphere where you can chat comfortably with just your group over drinks.

The menu is so varied — from aged sashimi to pasta, fried dishes, and stews — that there's something to pick no matter your taste. Here are the four dishes we ordered that day.
- Aged sashimi set for two — ₩69,000
- Raw shrimp sashimi — ₩45,000
- Beef brisket rose pasta — ₩23,000
- Red crab innard cream croquette — ₩19,000
Complimentary starters and draft beer

I tried a lot of dishes here, but even the basic side dishes were substantial.

A cold draft beer first — ahh!
Beef brisket rose pasta, 23,000 won, served with baguette

The first thing we ordered was the beef brisket rose pasta! It was more generous and thoughtfully made than I expected — the rose sauce filled a big pan, with the brisket, noodles, and a heap of cheese on top, so it looked amazing from the start.

The sauce was creamy but had a slightly tangy tomato flavor, so it wasn't too heavy. Add in the savory fattiness of the brisket, and the flavor became even richer! A baguette came with it too, which was perfect for soaking up the leftover sauce.

Aged sashimi set for two, 69,000 won, aged 24–36 hours at low temperature
What I was most looking forward to that day was the aged sashimi and raw shrimp sashimi.

The aged sashimi set is made with 5–6 kinds of seasonal fish, low-temperature aged for 24–36 hours. Each piece clearly had different colors and textures, so it was fun to pick and try them one by one.

It wasn't just soft, uniform sashimi — each fish had a slightly different chewiness and fattiness, and the umami that built up as we chewed was really good.

Raw shrimp sashimi, 45,000 won, sold only in season
And then the raw shrimp sashimi, which was visually overwhelming! It came arranged neatly across the whole plate, the shrimp so plump that everyone went 'ooh' the moment it arrived.

When you bite into it, there's a springy bounce, and as you chew, that distinct sweet shrimp flavor rises up. If you like raw shrimp, this is a dish you really can't skip. It's a seasonal, limited-time menu item, so definitely try it!
Red crab innard cream croquette, 19,000 won

The red crab innard cream croquette looks like an ordinary croquette from the outside, but cut it in half and the inside is completely moist.
The outside was fried crispy, while the inside was packed with soft cream and the savory flavor of red crab innards — the contrast in texture was fun.
Final verdict: what kind of gathering suits Suksseong Susan?
Starting with the seasonal raw shrimp sashimi and aged sashimi, then moving on to the brisket rose pasta and red crab innard cream croquette, the flow from seafood to warm dishes worked really well. This place would suit anyone who loves aged sashimi, and it also feels like a good fit if you're looking for a Jongno bar for a date or drinks with friends.
