Nowon sushi buffet family lunch with cheese-topped meat sushi: Kuu Kuu

Picking a menu everyone agrees on is always the hardest part of a family meal out. So I went to Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch, a sushi buffet that works well as a Nowon family gathering spot. It's the kind of place where everyone can pick what they like at one table — sashimi, meat, hot dishes, even dessert — and the lineup turned out to be more varied than I expected.

Where Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch is and where to park

Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch is in the Seoul Oncheon Building at 247 Nowon-ro, Nowon-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

If you're driving, you can use the Seoul Oncheon Building parking lot, and it's free for 2 hours, so there's not much pressure to rush the meal even with a family in tow.

Weekday lunch 27,900 won: what each time slot costs

Weekday lunch before 5pm is 27,900 won, weekday dinner after 5pm is 31,900 won, and weekends and holidays are 35,900 won.

Is the 300-pyeong hall comfortable for a family group?

Once you walk in, Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch feels quite spacious.

It's said to be over 300 pyeong, and the food stations are genuinely wide with decent gaps between tables, so it didn't feel as chaotic as buffets usually do. There's room for a typical family meal, but also for larger group gatherings. When multiple generations come together, everyone's tastes can be different, and since everyone just grabs what they want, it really does make for a comfortable choice as a Nowon family gathering spot.

Sushi and roll counter: raw salmon, soy-marinated crab, cheese meat sushi

The first thing that caught my eye that day was, of course, the sushi and roll station.

If you love salmon, this lineup would make your eyes go wide, haha.

100% Norwegian raw salmon, tuna, soy-marinated crab, soy-marinated shrimp — plenty to enjoy generously, and that's a plus!

With sushi buffets, a few plates in, things can start to feel repetitive, but alternating between meat, salmon, tuna and seafood kept me from getting tired of it — I kept reaching for something different.

The salmon sushi and flounder sushi were apparently newly renewed, and the fish really was cut in thick, satisfying pieces.

There was also meat sushi piled with cheese. The salty, rich flavor of the meat plus the savory cheese made it feel less like sushi and more like a small meat dish. It seemed like a great option for kids or anyone not used to raw fish.

Hot plate: mala shrimp, steamed oysters, grilled lamb chops, smoked duck

The hot plate section was also packed — mala shrimp, steamed oysters, wing bombs, grilled lamb chops. It's almost too generous for a weekday lunch!

Smoked duck was also on offer — a faint smoky aroma, the outside slightly rich with sauce, the inside tender. It worked well as a meat course between sushi rounds. Pairing it with salad or pickled radish cut through the heaviness of the meat.

Freshly made noodles, snack food, and all kinds of salad too — pretty diverse, right?

Coffee, drinks and slushies were also varied.

Unlimited draft beer event and marble ice cream at lunch

Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch also had a draft beer event running. Per store signage, writing a review got you unlimited draft beer worth 5,900 won. Pairing buffet food with draft beer sounds pretty good for a dinner gathering too.

Marble ice cream used to be a dinner-and-weekend-only menu item, but the signage said it's now been extended to lunch as well. Going with kids means you can wrap things up with a proper dessert course, haha.

Is Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch worth it for a family meal?

This isn't just a sushi spot — with sashimi, meat, hot dishes and dessert all available to pick and choose, it felt especially suited to family meals with a mix of ages. Nobody has to compromise on the menu since everyone can just grab what they like, so if you're looking for a Nowon family gathering spot, Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch is a solid choice for a filling meal.
