Daehangno western restaurant with duck kids' tableware: Omil Hyehwa

After finishing a checkup at Seoul National University Hospital with the kids, we decided to grab something good to eat in Daehangno. I was looking for a place the kids could enjoy while I'd also be satisfied, and that's how I landed on Omil. With Hyehwa pasta plus kid-friendly dishes like omurice and pork cutlet, it's great for eating with children, and the cozy vibe would also work well as a Daehangno date spot.

Where Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is and what the room feels like

Omil is near Hyehwa CGV, so it wasn't hard to find.

Going up to the second floor, the interior was decorated neatly and cozily, true to the name — clean white tones and a relaxed overall feel. It also seemed like a good spot for a casual date over Hyehwa pasta in Daehangno.

Eating with kids at Omil: high chairs and duck tableware

Above all, the things you need when visiting with kids were well prepared. There were high chairs, plus kids' tableware shaped like ducks, and the kids loved it right away. It's a small detail, but it showed real consideration for families.

The window seats, as always, were popular, already taken by earlier guests.

Still, the interior was decorated so cozily that the atmosphere felt good no matter where we sat.

There was a self-serve bar on one side where you could easily grab extra pickles.

How ordering works at Omil and what we chose, with prices

Ordering is done via the QR code on the table. Once connected, you can see menu photos right away, which made it easy to choose by looking at what the food actually looks like. With Hyehwa pasta and various Western dishes on offer, it'd also be convenient for couples on a date to each pick what they're craving.

We started with Omil's signature Rubber Duck Omurice for 16,900 won. On top of that we added the Sizzling Cheese Katsu for 19,900 won and Truffle Fries for 9,900 won. We picked mostly dishes the kids could share, and as each dish arrived at the table, the mood really picked up.

Rubber Duck Omurice, 16,900 won: how the kids reacted

The first thing to catch everyone's eye was, of course, the Rubber Duck Omurice. The moment it arrived, the kids were fighting over who got to look at it first.

Tiny ducks made from quail eggs were clustered together, plated as if they were on a little vacation island. It was so cute I ended up taking several photos before even eating.

Each duck had its own cute expression, and the plating overall was so unique that I felt really glad we'd come with the kids.

There was also an event where you could get a rubber duck tube, which delighted the kids even more. The food itself is a spectacle, so it'd leave a memorable impression on anyone looking for a unique dish on a date, too.

It wasn't just pretty to look at — the fried rice inside the omurice was also great to share with the kids. Scooping up the soft egg together with the fried rice was filling, and it paired well with the sauce too. If you're after Hyehwa pasta but also thinking about what the kids will eat, it's nice to know this kind of option exists.

Sizzling Cheese Katsu, 19,900 won, and how peppery it tastes

Next came the Sizzling Cheese Katsu, which also grabbed attention the moment it arrived. Pouring cheese sauce over the hot sizzling plate, the sound alone already sounded delicious.

Splitting it in half, cheese poured out like a waterfall from the inside — there was no way cheese-loving kids would sit still for that.

With the crispy breading of the pork cutlet loaded up with savory cheese, it was pretty filling. Both the omurice and the katsu had a noticeable pepper flavor. If your child is sensitive to pepper, it might be worth comparing it against other menu items when ordering — a useful thing to keep in mind if you're visiting with kids.

Truffle Fries at Omil Hyehwa Daehangno, 9,900 won

The Truffle Fries also got more attention than expected. Compared to plain fries, the truffle scent came through quite strongly, making its presence clear from the first bite. The kids liked the truffle aroma too and kept picking at them. It worked well as a side to share alongside the main dishes.

Is Omil a good Daehangno restaurant to visit with children?

Omil's food is so visually cute that it also works well as a date course where you'd want to enjoy Hyehwa pasta or other Western dishes while taking photos. On the flip side, visiting Daehangno with kids like we did, it was convenient that kid-friendly dishes, tableware, and high chairs were all ready to go.

Daehangno has plenty of places to eat after a show or a hospital visit, but choosing a menu can be surprisingly tricky when you're with kids. What I liked most about Omil was being able to choose from Hyehwa pasta for the adults to enjoy, alongside omurice and cheese katsu that the kids would love.

The kids had fun with the cute presentation and I got to enjoy a good meal myself, so we wrapped things up at Omil on a happy note.
