Busan shabu kalguksu with a 4th fried rice serving added: Yunujae

In short

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan that serves shabu-shabu, kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) and fried rice as one course. Visiting with a partner and a child, the writer ordered 3 servings of shabu kalguksu in the not-spicy broth, then finished with fried rice: the standard 3 servings plus 1 extra, for 4 in total. Parking was available for drivers, making Yunujae an easy family dinner with a child who cannot eat spicy food.

I wanted something warm and soupy in Munhyeon-dong, so I went to Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu. My partner, our kid and I went together, and eating our way through shabu-shabu, then kalguksu, then fried rice left us so full and satisfied !!!

We drove there, and since parking was available, it was an easy meal to get to.

We ordered shabu kalguksu, 3 servings, not spicy, plus the fried rice — standard 3 servings with 1 extra serving added on.

Why the not-spicy broth at Yunujae works with a child

Not-spicy shabu kalguksu broth as ordered

At Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu, we ordered the shabu kalguksu in the not-spicy version so our kid could eat with us. It's nice having that option when you're with a kid who can't handle spicy food.

Shabu-shabu broth boiling at the table

Once the broth started bubbling and we dropped the ingredients in one by one, there was that fun of cooking it right at the table.

Shabu-shabu ingredients cooking in the broth

Just watching the shabu-shabu ingredients cook as the warm broth boiled somehow made us even hungrier lol. Sitting around the table taking our time as three fit really well as a family outing.

A bite of shabu-shabu with meat and vegetables together

With shabu-shabu, it's always better to eat the meat together with vegetables rather than meat alone. Lightly cooking the meat in the broth and eating it with vegetables made it clean and light. Since it was the not-spicy version, the broth wasn't heavy either, so it was easy for our kid to eat too.

Shabu-shabu meat eaten with hot broth

A spoonful of hot broth plus meat and vegetables together made for a pretty filling start to the meal. Another good thing about shabu-shabu is you can keep enjoying it warm the whole time you're eating. It's just right, especially these days when you're craving a hot soup.

After the shabu-shabu comes the kalguksu

Kalguksu noodles before going into the shabu-shabu broth

Once we'd eaten enough shabu-shabu, we added the kalguksu noodles. Instead of adding the noodles right away, we ate the meat and vegetables first and moved on to kalguksu at the end, so it felt like enjoying one menu in several different ways.

With all the meat and vegetables that had gone into the broth, the flavor was different from the start, so the kalguksu had a whole other feel to it. The noodles went great with the broth, and split between the three of us, the portion was plenty. But we didn't stop there lol

Fried rice at Yunujae: 3 standard servings plus 1 extra

Fried rice for four ordered to finish the meal

To finish, we ordered fried rice too. Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu's fried rice comes in a standard 3 servings, and we added a full extra serving on top for 4 total.

Finishing fried rice pressed flat on the griddle

At first I thought 4 servings of fried rice might be too much, but once we actually started eating, it just kept going down lol

A spoonful scooped from the shabu fried rice

Even though we were already pretty full from the shabu-shabu and kalguksu, the finishing fried rice was a whole different flavor, so our chopsticks kept going back for more. I was glad we added the extra serving to share generously between the three of us.

Using the parking at Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu

One of the things I liked about this visit to Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu was that parking was available.

Car parked in the building's parking space

When eating out as a family, the food matters, but whether parking is easy if you drive there is honestly something you worry about too.

Parking lot view after a family meal out

Not having to worry about parking made it a lot easier to get around with our kid. Eating a warm meal at the restaurant and having easy parking too made this seem like a solid spot for a family meal out.

This time we ordered shabu kalguksu, 3 servings, not spicy, and fried rice, 4 servings, and eating through shabu-shabu, then kalguksu, then fried rice in order left us really full and satisfied.

Not-spicy shabu kalguksu with the final fried rice

Since we were eating with our kid, we went with the not-spicy version, and it was nice being able to enjoy warm soup food together without anything too intense.

With parking available and generous portions, this is a place I'll probably think of again on days we want a warm meal as a family. The three of us ate until we were full and finished the meal in a good mood haha.
