Anseong large café: 2nd-floor jazz & basil tomato hotteok, Chat Baker
In short
Chat Baker Brunch & Bakery Café is a large two-floor brunch and bakery café tucked inside 512 Square in Gongdo-eup, Anseong, Gyeonggi. On the day of the visit, a live jazz performance played on the 2nd floor while we shared basil tomato hotteok (Korean filled pancake), Mont Blanc and a choco crookie with four drinks: an ade, a smoothie, a vanilla latte and more. Of the three breads, the soft Mont Blanc was the favorite. Chat Baker is a large Anseong café for anyone who wants music along with their bread and drinks.

I stopped by Chat Baker Brunch & Bakery Café in Gongdo, Anseong, for bread and drinks, and ended up catching a live jazz performance too! Chat Baker is a big café spanning the 1st and 2nd floors, and on the day I visited there was live jazz upstairs. Enjoying bread and drinks in a spacious room with music playing made the atmosphere really lovely that day.

Where is Chat Baker and how is the parking?
Chat Baker is inside 512 Square at 4391 Seodong-daero, Gongdo-eup, Anseong. There's a large shared parking lot in front, so it was fine to come by car. I walked in after looking at the building from outside, and the interior turned out to be quite big.

It's not just a ground-floor café but continues up to the 2nd floor, so exploring the space was fun too.

When you walk into Chat Baker, the bakery display is the first thing you see. You can order just a drink, but the layout makes you pick out bread too, so we ordered both bakery items and drinks. It felt like a café for sitting down, chatting and listening to music rather than grabbing bread and going.

Chat Baker interior and seating
Inside Chat Baker it's spacious, with room between the seats. Big windows keep it from feeling stuffy, and the seating is arranged in separate zones, so you really feel the scale of a large café.

The marble interior gives the whole place a calm mood.

After looking around the 1st floor I went up to the 2nd, where another roomy space continues. Since it has two floors, you might want to check out the upstairs too before choosing where to sit.
How was the live jazz upstairs at Chat Baker?
The most memorable thing at Chat Baker that day was the live jazz performance on the 2nd floor.

Lots of cafés play background music, but visiting on a day with a live show felt completely different. Sitting with bread and drinks in front of me while listening to jazz was such a good time.

With the performance, the café space felt a little more special. It left me with the impression of a place to spend time with music, not just somewhere to grab a quick drink.
With jazz playing live in the big 2nd-floor space, the room and the music went together really well. When I talk about this trip to Chat Baker, I can't leave out the performance any more than the bread or drinks. The show was part of the schedule on my visit day, so if you want to catch live jazz, check ahead whether there's a performance on the day you go.

The four drinks we ordered at Chat Baker
For drinks at Chat Baker, we ordered one each of lemonade, strawberry ade, vanilla latte and peach yogurt smoothie.

We didn't match our orders but picked different kinds. For the ades we went with lemon and strawberry, and added a peach yogurt smoothie. The vanilla latte was a hot, non-coffee drink.

That day we skipped coffee and had ades, a smoothie and a warm non-coffee drink with our bread. The yogurt and the smoothie weren't overly sweet, which I liked.

How do the basil tomato hotteok, Mont Blanc and choco cruffin taste?
For bread at Chat Baker we ordered one each of the basil tomato hotteok, Mont Blanc and choco cruffin. The basil tomato hotteok (hotteok is a Korean filled pancake) caught my eye from its name alone.

With basil and tomato attached to the familiar hotteok, it stood apart from the other breads.

Along with the Mont Blanc and choco cruffin, we picked three different breads instead of several of one kind. Chat Baker also has brunch and pasta, but this time we filled the order with bakery items and drinks instead of a meal.

Three breads and four drinks, with the jazz atmosphere around us, made for a really nice time at the café. The Mont Blanc was soft. The basil tomato hotteok was nothing like the hotteok you're picturing: it was a chewy bread with basil aroma and tomato flavor. Of the three, the Mont Blanc was my favorite.
Chat Baker, a café remembered with music

Chat Baker is a place I remember for its big parking lot, its two-floor interior and the live jazz on the day of my visit. If you're looking for a large café around Pyeongtaek and Anseong and care about a musical atmosphere as well as bread and drinks, it's worth a look. If I go again, I'd check the performance schedule first. I'd love to spend café time with live jazz again like that day.
