It was a weekday afternoon, and for the first time in a while my wife and I decided to have a cool, filling dessert and a cozy little date together.

Baedagol Bakery House near Wondang, Goyang: location and parking
After searching for a while for where to go, we ended up at Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스), a Goyang café near Wondang that's famous by word of mouth for its beautiful garden views and excellent bakery quality.
It's at 123 Hoguk-ro 1121beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. There's a spacious parking lot in front of the café and nearby, so it was very easy to visit by car.

When we arrived, the clean bakery house building set against the green garden stood out right away. It looks stylish and is huge, so even on our first visit we found it without wandering around, and the big-café vibe was obvious before we even walked in.
Outside there are terrace seats and a wide garden, nicely kept with white hydrangeas and lush greenery. Unlike stuffy downtown cafés, it looked perfect for healing with an open green view and a cool breeze.

Window-wall garden views inside, cool even on hot days
Inside, the space was really wide and tidy. Through the big windows the green garden came into view all at once, giving an open, airy feel. It was hot and sunny outside, but the air conditioning was blasting, so it was not just cool but downright comfortable. Even on a hot weekday afternoon you can enjoy bread and coffee with the view without breaking a sweat, which makes it an ideal setting. The tables are well spaced and the seating is roomy, so besides dates like ours it looked great for family gatherings and group get-togethers too.

What we ordered: oven-style bread, blueberry tart, cheesecake
After sitting down and looking over the varied bakery items on display, we picked a signature bread and a sweet tart to suit our tastes.
We chose nutty, plain oven-style bread, a tart topped with fresh blueberries and a soft cheesecake, and ordered two refreshing iced Americanos.

We took a seat by the window, where a guide card sat neatly on the table. The warm message from the staff, saying they'd do their best for the customer's relaxed cup of coffee, left an impression.

At last our bakery order and cool iced Americanos arrived, neatly plated on a tray.

The savory smell of freshly baked bread and the look of the sweet desserts together made my mouth water just looking. Photographed against the green garden outside the window, everything came out so pretty that "eat with your eyes first" was exactly the right phrase for this perfect setup. First, we tried the golden-baked main bread, packed with fillings.

The main bread with tomato, cheese and olives
The dough is crisp outside and moist inside, generously filled with fresh tomato, savory cheese and olives, so the moment I took a bite, rich umami filled my mouth. It kept the bakery flavor from getting greasy, and it was good enough to count as a meal.

Blueberry tart and cheesecake
Next we tried the brilliantly colored blueberry tart and the cheesecake. The blueberries on the tart were big and plump, bursting with juice with every bite, and the harmony of the cream below with the crisp tart shell was honestly art. The cheesecake melted softly like cream ice cream, with a rich flavor that wasn't fishy or heavy at all.

A bite of sweet dessert followed by a sip of cool, crisp iced Americano made the fatigue and stress built up over the week just vanish. My wife kept exclaiming that the dessert and coffee combo was really amazing.
Strolling the outdoor garden with hydrangeas
After eating, we stepped outside and slowly walked the garden along the path.

The neat lawn, tall trees and fresh hydrangeas together made a view like a painting. We took photos with the pretty hydrangeas and trees behind us, and enjoyed a happy, relaxed weekday afternoon date to the fullest.

Is it worth recommending as a Goyang/Ilsan café near Wondang?
Overall, the healing, comfortable atmosphere, the cool indoor temperature where you don't sweat a drop, the friendly staff, and a garden view and bakery taste so impressive you can hardly believe it's near Ilsan and Wondang: everything was better than expected on this perfect café visit.
The two of us ate well, took a walk, and ended our day on a good note.

If you're around Goyang, Ilsan or Wondang and want delicious, no-fail bread and a relaxed time in a green garden, I strongly recommend Baedagol Bakery House.
