Why we looked for a pork BBQ restaurant near Suwon Station
I'm a thirty-three-year-old office worker who works near Suwon Station. It was 11:45 on a Saturday morning. My coworker and I only had an hour and a half for lunch. Budget: under 70,000 won for the two of us.
My stomach was growling but my brain was blank. I needed to find a place to eat samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) near Suwon Station, but when I pulled up the map, all I saw were franchises.

That's when a place with a 4.89 rating and 5,499 reviews caught my eye on Naver Maps. It was called Ssosam 208 Suwon Station Branch. Under the pork BBQ category, a photo showed cheese cascading down a grill shaped like an erupting volcano — it burned itself into my brain instantly.
I hit reserve right away. The Naver reservation event let me choose between pork belly doenjang stew or 100g of pork cheek. I went with the pork cheek.

Walking from Suwon Station exit 7 to Ssosam 208
I came out of exit 7. The map said 283 meters, but the walk turned out trickier than expected. I went straight along Deogyeong-daero, missed an alley, and backtracked 50 meters. Total walk: 4 minutes. After spotting a sign for the Changkko Building, I turned right, walked another 50 meters, and saw a red sign on the left.

Ssosam 208. I arrived at 12:10. A staff member stood at the door checking the reservation list — I secretly nicknamed him the Guardian of the Grill. He led us to a table with a volcano grill. On top sat a black stone plate rising up like an actual volcano.

What two people ordered and paid: 500g mixed stone-grill platter plus pork skin
The moment we saw the menu, my coworker said we should get the mixed stone-grill platter, medium, 500g. That's 48,500 won.

I wanted pork skin, so I added 150g of the chewy pork skin for 2,000 won. Two bowls of rice. With Zero Pepsi and Fanta Pine added in, the total came to 70,000 won.

I remembered that leaving a Naver receipt review gets you a free lava fondue cheese sauce.

I wrote the review and got the sauce.

How does the volcano grill at Ssosam 208 cook the pork?
The grill started heating up. At the volcano's peak, the meat started sizzling.

Pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal (thousand-layer pork belly) all went on at once. The fat trickled down the grill's slope. The juices stayed up top while the fat drained away — that's the structure.

That's the secret of the volcano grill. I picked up a piece of pork belly with my chopsticks. The surface had browned nicely. I took a bite.
The moment the juices burst, electricity shot from the back of my tongue to my brain. The lean part was chewy and the fat melted soft.

One chew. Two chews. By the third, the nuttiness peaked.

Dipping the pork in Ssosam 208's lava fondue sauce
That's when my coworker dunked a piece of pork belly deep into the lava fondue sauce. I'm not usually much of a cheese person. But that day, for some reason, I wanted to copy him.

The cheese sauce wrapped around the meat and stretched. It was slippery yet chewy in texture. Once the cheese sat on top, the bite felt heavier. When I put it in my mouth, cheese stretched between my teeth in long strands. That's the moment I understood why this is a samgyeopsal spot worth talking about near Suwon Station.

A warning about pork skin and hot fat splatter
Then a problem came up. The pork skin started popping on the grill. Oil splattered up as if it were 80 degrees hot. I leaned back.

My coworker missed the moment to flip the pork skin. The outside got a bit burnt. The Guardian of the Grill passed by, saw our table, and smiled.

My heart raced like I'd broken some kind of taboo. But the burnt pork skin was still chewy and not bad at all — the charred flavor actually made it nuttier.

Is 500g of pork enough for two people?
As we ate, the portion turned out bigger than expected. The mixed stone-grill platter at 500g plus the extra pork skin was more than enough to fill two grown men. I'm usually someone who can't finish this much food. My coworker put down his chopsticks and sighed too. I felt obligated to finish every last bit of the remaining pork skin.

In the end, we didn't ask to pack up the leftovers and just chewed through everything. My stomach felt like it might burst. On the way out after paying, the counter told us that registering your license plate gets you free parking at the Golden Parking Lot out back during this hour.

Parking, group dinners and what we would order next time
I didn't bring a car, but I thought that if I ever came with a group, parking wouldn't be an issue. I couldn't believe a BBQ place like this existed such a short walk from Suwon Station. It's just a 5-minute walk from Lotte Mall or AK Plaza after shopping. Perfect for a company dinner too — group seating runs from a minimum of two up to seventy-eight people, so I should suggest it for our next department dinner.
I regretted the 30 minutes I spent wandering around looking for a pork BBQ spot near Suwon Station. Why didn't I know about this place sooner? A sizzling piece of samgyeopsal off the volcano grill paired with the lava fondue sauce is an experience you can't easily find around here.

Add in the free 100g of pork cheek from the Naver reservation, and this price for this quality is the right answer. Today was my first visit to Ssosam 208. From now on, this is the first place I'll think of whenever I'm near Suwon Station.
This isn't just grilling meat. It feels like climbing a volcano to cook it. That's the real deal at Ssosam 208 Suwon Station Branch.
