Suwon Korean BBQ with wasabi and scallion salad: Taejang Sikdang
In short
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a frozen pork belly restaurant on the Rodeo Street strip by Suwon Station in Gyeonggi. The writer ordered two servings of 4mm frozen pork belly, liked it enough to add a third, and rated the pepper the staff sprinkle while grilling the first batch, the egg-yolk soy special sauce and the wasabi-plus-scallion-salad combo as the best parts. Generous side dishes and a finish of Taejang bibim noodles and fried rice make Taejang Sikdang an easy recommendation for Korean BBQ near Suwon Station.

What kind of restaurant is Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch?
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a frozen pork belly restaurant on Suwon Station's Rodeo Street. They split their frozen pork belly by thickness — 4mm and 6mm — and it turns out 4mm is the "frozen" cut while 6mm is the "fresh" one ~~ Thin frozen pork won't make you fat!! That line really got me haha ^^ Thinner cuts, less weight gain, right?

Retro interior and atmosphere at Taejang Sikdang
The exterior of Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch already had a pretty retro vibe, but the inside was the real deal! A properly hip, old-school feel ~~ genuinely old-school energy? A full trip down memory lane ~~ old-time props, interior, even the music all had that same retro feel, so I really took a proper trip down memory lane!!

Menu and order: two servings of 4mm frozen pork belly, plus one more
Here's the menu at Taejang Sikdang ~! You pick your preferred thickness — the signature 4mm frozen pork belly or 6mm fresh pork belly! It's 180g, and isn't the price seriously reasonable? Total value for money!! There's also a nice range of side dishes to enjoy with the meat — stew, noodle dishes, steamed egg and more ~!

We went with the signature 4mm frozen pork belly! We ordered two servings at first, and it was so good we added one more! As soon as we ordered, they came and set up the table — check this out haha

How many side dishes come with the pork belly?
Do you see this incredible spread of side dishes? Taejang Sikdang is known for its generous accompanying dishes, and yep — it did not disappoint!!! You could fill up on just the side dishes alone ^^

And here comes the 4mm frozen pork belly we ordered!!! Taejang Sikdang's frozen pork belly is on a completely different level from the cheap stuff ~ it's premium pork belly flash-frozen to lock in the juices!! Even the color is worlds apart from lower-grade frozen pork, so it earns your trust right away ~! You can just tell it's fresh looking at it, right?

Staff grill the first batch and sprinkle pepper as it cooks
The staff grilled the first batch for us themselves! So guests can focus on conversation, they set up and grill the first meat and vegetables — you just sit back and enjoy the delicious pork belly, which was so comfortable and nice ~!

Grilling up that fresh, tasty pork belly!! They grill it together with fernbrake, seasoned bean sprouts, and cabbage kimchi — isn't it a lot, enough to fill you up on those alone? Taejang Sikdang doesn't skimp on the side dishes...♥

While grilling the pork belly, they sprinkle pepper on it here and there, and that turned out to be a real treat ~ I hadn't had much experience with frozen pork belly before, but I learned a trick at Taejang Sikdang! After that I kept grilling everything with pepper on it ~!

Egg-yolk soy special sauce and the wasabi scallion salad combo
There were so many basic sauces to eat with the pork belly ~~ Especially that egg-yolk soy sauce in the middle, which is Taejang Sikdang's special sauce — dipping perfectly grilled pork belly deep into that special sauce with the raw yolk in it made for an explosion of nutty, savory flavor ^^

For me the best combo was putting a little wasabi on the pork belly and topping it with scallion salad!! The side dishes and sauces were all delicious, and they paired so well with the pork belly that it just kept disappearing ~ we finished it fast and ordered one more serving haha

Is one 180g serving of 4mm frozen pork belly enough?
It cooks up quickly, and being thin it's not greasy, and eating it in various ways with the side dishes kept it interesting! (Of course, the soju went down smoothly too ~~) But that was just because it was tasty so we ate a lot! The portion size wasn't small at all! I used to have a bias that frozen pork belly is a small, thin portion that doesn't fill you up, but not at all ~! The portion was decently large and thicker than expected, so it really filled us up!

Finishing with Taejang bibim noodles and fried rice
As a side dish to go with the pork belly, we ordered Taejang bibim noodles (spicy mixed noodles), and this was so good too! Tangy, sweet, and spicy, it paired perfectly with the pork belly and was refreshing enough to cut through any greasiness ~~ a killer combo!

And of course, the fried rice — you can't skip it!! When you order it, the kitchen fries it up fresh and brings it out, and it's nothing like a basic fried rice with just some seaweed flakes thrown in!! It had meat in it and was an explosion of savory flavor with their special recipe! We were already full but couldn't stop eating ~ if you're looking for a meat restaurant near Suwon Station that you absolutely won't regret, I highly recommend Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch♥
