Beef rib BBQ near Grand Hyatt Jeju, calm black interior: Jeju Udae

Jeju Udae (제주 우대) Nohyeong main branch is a udaegalbi (large beef short rib) restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, near the Grand Hyatt Jeju. In a calm, modern black-toned dining room, the writer had udaegalbi for 2 grilled twice by staff, over charcoal and then straw fire, along with free unlimited refills of Korean beef bone and radish soup and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) fried rice to finish. Jeju Udae is 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport, which makes it a satisfying choice for a first or last meal of a Jeju trip, a family gathering or a company dinner.

Jeju one-chef restaurant near Pyeongdae Beach: brunch, Pyeongdae Alhi

Pyeongdae Alhi is a one-chef Western restaurant on Bijarim-ro in Pyeongdae-ri, Gujwa-eup, East Jeju. In its antique, vintage-style dining room we had the daily-limited sous-vide Jeju black pork steak, tiger shrimp oil Hallasan pasta and a rice bowl of tiger shrimp marinated to a secret aged recipe, and because Pyeongdae Alhi seats a maximum of 4 per party, groups of 5 or more eat in sittings 30 minutes apart. Fresh ingredients and careful plating made Pyeongdae Alhi a satisfying Western meal in East Jeju.

Jeju BBQ in a converted house, 2-day aged pork: Woljeongri Galbibap

Woljeongri Galbibap (월정리갈비밥) is a charcoal-grilled marinated pork restaurant in Woljeong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju, a 1-minute walk from Woljeongri Beach. Because Woljeongri Galbibap is a converted house, the seating is split into separate rooms. Two people ordered Set B (₩22,000 per person), which came with half-and-half charcoal-grilled pork, butter-grilled abalone, marinated yellow crab, scallop pajeon (savory pancake) and 8 side dishes. The Jeju pork is aged for two days and grilled over charcoal, so it tastes clean and not spicy, making Woljeongri Galbibap an easy East Jeju pick for solo diners and families alike.

Gwangalli café: flower Egg in Hell & big salmon toast at Famous Benny

Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is an Australian-style brunch café in Millak-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan, open daily from 8am to 6pm. At Famous Benny the writer ate an Egg in Hell decorated with edible flowers and a smoked salmon toast that came out much bigger than it looked in photos. The writer also looked around the 1st- and 2nd-floor seating, outlets and a service bar stocked with blankets. Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is a good stop for a filling brunch and coffee after a walk or jog along Gwangalli.

Group-dining eel restaurant in Gijang: rooms for up to 16, Yangsando

Yangsando Gijang Yeonhwa Branch (양산도 기장연화점) is a Japanese restaurant in Yeonhwa-ri, Gijang, Busan, specializing in hitsumabushi (Nagoya-style grilled eel over rice). The blogger visited on a weekday around 11:40 a.m. and ordered hitsumabushi on a tablet in a 4-person private room. Every seat at the restaurant is in a private room, and sliding doors join rooms for group bookings of 7 to 16. Yangsando Gijang Yeonhwa Branch is a good eel rice bowl spot in Gijang for private family and friend gatherings.

Namyangsan Station brunch café: garlic butter egg at Famous Venny

On this visit the writer had a bacon egg roll, avocado toast, garlic butter egg and house salad, and also received a yogurt bowl through a review event. With plating topped with edible flowers and outlets at the seats, Famous Venny is an easy brunch spot whether you come alone or with family.

Haeundae European eatery in an old bathhouse: pastry soup, Bueokgan

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch is a European restaurant on the 2nd floor of a standalone building on Dalmaji-gil in Jungdong, Haeundae, Busan, on the site of the old Sansu-tang bathhouse. At Bueokgan Haeundae Branch, pastry soup, basil pesto cream pasta and truffle mushroom pizza are ordered by tablet in a dining room with two moods, deep green and white-yellow, and the restaurant is a YES Kids Zone with high chairs and kids' tableware. The pumpkin pastry soup was the standout, good enough to order two soups per person next time.

Gwangalli café menu prices and seating types: Working Holiday Millak

Working Holiday Millak is an ocean-view brunch café on the 7th floor of the Badamaru building at 29 Millak Subyeon-ro in Suyeong-gu, Busan, looking out over Gwangalli. Orders are placed at a kiosk by the entrance, and the menu runs from brunch and pasta to Italian pizza, bakery items and brewing coffee; this visit covered the chicken avo sandwich and the Margherita pizza, plus sofa seats, round tables, share tables and the terrace. Spend 10,000 won or more and the basement lot gives 1 hour of parking, up to a maximum of 4 hours.
