Changwon Station eel restaurant: first Jinju-style eel, Daedo Jangeo

Daedo Jangeo is a Jinju-style grilled eel restaurant right in front of Changwon Station in Changwon, Gyeongnam, which reportedly moved to Changwon after 30 years on the eel street in front of Jinju Fortress. The writer and his wife tried Jinju-style grilled eel for the first time, dipping the large salt-grilled sea eel in sesame oil sauce and finishing with eel soup sprinkled with jepi (Korean prickly ash) powder. Thanks to tender eel with no fishy smell and eel that comes fully grilled from the kitchen, Daedo Jangeo is an easy recommendation even for eel beginners.

Seomyeon, Busan tonkatsu with a Dojae bread loin sando: Hets Jeonpo

Hets Jeonpo Branch (헷츠 전포점) is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, between Seomyeon and Jeonpo stations near Jeonpo Cafe Street, and the second Hets after the Gwangan branch. The writer arrived at 11:10am on a weekday to order the limited Jeju black pork top loin katsu (₩17,000), a loin sando made with Dojae bread (₩12,000), meat curry and boneless karaage. The top loin katsu stood out for its crisp crust, smoky flavor and tender gabrisal (pork shoulder cap). With clean bar seating, Hets Jeonpo Branch suits both a solo meal in Jeonpo and a date in Seomyeon.
