Seolleung izakaya: Kirin beer, aji fry and engawa nigiri at Sakai
Sakai is an izakaya in an alley near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, where guests pick sashimi and okonomi sushi (sushi ordered piece by piece) from the day's catch. The writer and a friend shared a sashimi platter (moriawase), aji fry (fried horse mackerel), and engawa (flatfish fin) and gizzard shad nigiri with bottled Kirin beer; the mackerel sashimi with no fishy taste and the crispy aji fry stood out most. Sakai is a good Seolleung izakaya for a night of sushi, small plates, beer and conversation.
