Cheonan Korean BBQ: aged half pig plus five-layer pork belly, Hanmaeum

I was looking for a great BBQ place in Cheonan and ended up at Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Cheonan Sinbuldang (한마음정육식당 천안신불당점). After eating there, I get why so many people go. It works for family meals, company dinners and get-togethers, so I'd like to introduce it.

Is the restaurant spacious, and does it have group rooms?

The restaurant is very large, and it has separate group rooms. The tables are nicely spaced out too, so I thought it would be a really good spot for a company dinner or a family gathering.

What impressed me most was the kids' zone. It even has CCTV, and when I visited there were lots of families with children. It was nice to see the parents eating in peace. With a space for kids to play, it's a good choice if you're looking for a family meal.

What are the side dishes and included items like?

As soon as you sit down, a variety of side dishes is set out, and there are even more at the refill corner. Every one of them was neat and tasty. I think side dishes matter a lot at a BBQ place, and there were not only ones that go well with the meat but a wide variety, so my mouth was happy.

Doenjang jjigae and jjolmyeon come included

What really satisfied me was that doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and jjolmyeon (chewy spicy cold noodles) come as standard! Many places make you order them separately, but here they're part of the basic set, which I loved. The stew was deliciously rich and nutty, and it's refillable, so you can enjoy it without worry. The jjolmyeon had a sweet-and-sour sauce that whets the appetite, and it was perfect to eat between bites of meat.

Is the aged half pig enough for two people?

Two of us ate the aged half pig (500g, ₩38,000) and added one portion of osgyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), and it was plenty and satisfying. The half pig lets you taste a range of cuts at once: samgyeopsal (pork belly), osgyeopsal, moksal (neck), hangjeongsal (jowl) and gabeurisal (the cut at the end of the loin). ₩38,000 for 500g is a really good price.

I especially liked getting several cuts in one go. Each has a different texture and flavor, so you never get tired of it, and the meat was well aged, tender and juicy.

For bigger groups: the aged whole pig (1kg)

For a bigger group, I recommend ordering the aged whole pig (1kg). It's the same set of cuts for ₩70,000, and the amount you get for the price is really good, so coming with several people is much better value.

Is there beef on the menu too?

Looking at the menu, there's a good range of beef dishes as well as pork. When I searched other reviews, satisfaction with the beef was high too, so I want to try the beef next time! I think it's worth recommending even for people looking for a good beef place in Cheonan.

Is parking easy at Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Cheonan Sinbuldang?

You can park both above ground and underground, so you can visit without worrying about parking. It's in Sinbuldang so it's easy to get to, and above all, parking was really convenient.

Who is it recommended for?

If you're looking for a family meal in Cheonan, a spot for a company dinner, or good-value BBQ, I recommend Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Cheonan Sinbuldang. The big space, group rooms, kids' zone, easy parking, generous basic set and wide range of meats all added up to a lot to like. If you want a tasty meal in Cheonan, give it a visit.
