Suncheon tendon restaurant Koutendon: kotendon vs ebitendon compared
In short
Koutendon is a tendon (tempura rice bowl) restaurant in the Sindae district of Suncheon, South Korea. On this visit both bowls were ordered side by side — the kotendon at 13,500 won and the ebitendon at 16,500 won — to compare the tempura line-up and how much shrimp each one carries, and both portions were too big to finish. First-timers should order the kotendon, while shrimp lovers should go straight for the ebitendon.

This time I ordered both kotendon and ebitendon together.

To cut to the conclusion first — the portions are pretty generous. I've been here several times and I still haven't finished a whole bowl of tendon haha. If it's your first visit, go with kotendon; if you love shrimp tempura, ebitendon makes the choice easy.

Kotendon or ebitendon: which bowl should you order?

This time I ordered kotendon and ebitendon. Trying them side by side, the difference between the two menus was clear.

Kotendon comes with shrimp and a variety of vegetable tempura plus an onsen egg (soft-boiled egg), so you get a well-rounded taste of the classic tendon lineup. Ebitendon has a higher ratio of shrimp tempura, making it the better fit for shrimp lovers. If it's your first visit, go for the standard kotendon; if you usually reach for shrimp tempura first, I'd recommend ebitendon.
The kotendon: a bowl piled high with tempura
When the tendon arrives, it looks even more generous than it does in photos. Shrimp tempura along with eggplant, sweet pumpkin, and other tempura nearly cover the rice, with an onsen egg sitting right in the center.

I like breaking the onsen egg and mixing it into the rice — the yolk and sauce coat the rice, and topping each bite with a piece of crispy tempura works really well. There's a nice variety of tempura too, so it's fun picking through one piece at a time until the end.
The ebitendon: the pick for shrimp lovers
If you're torn between kotendon and ebitendon, it's simple — just go with your preference. Want to eat a mix of different tempura? Kotendon. Love shrimp tempura? Ebitendon.
Having tried both side by side, ebitendon definitely has a much stronger shrimp presence. If you're the type who reaches for shrimp tempura before the vegetables when eating tendon, ebitendon will suit you better.
How big are the portions at Koutendon?
Something I notice every time I visit Koutendon in Suncheon is the portion size. In photos it looks like just one bowl of tendon, but eating it in person, it's quite filling. I've visited several times and still haven't managed to finish a whole bowl haha.
At first the tempura is so crispy you keep eating without thinking, but by the time you've worked through the tempura, rice, and onsen egg, you're definitely full by the end. If you don't usually eat large portions, it's worth keeping the size in mind when ordering.
Why Koutendon still draws a crowd in Suncheon's Sindae district
Koutendon has been a Suncheon Sindae-district favorite I've known about for a while.

It used to be crowded, and even after some time away, there were still plenty of regulars there. It feels less like a place that briefly trended and more like a spot people keep coming back to whenever they're craving tendon in Sindae.

If you're looking for a lunch or dinner option in Suncheon's Sindae district, or you like crispy tempura served with rice, give Koutendon a try.
Quick verdict: which Koutendon bowl to choose

- ✔ First visit → Kotendon
- ✔ Love shrimp → Ebitendon
- ✔ Small appetite → It's more filling than it looks, so keep that in mind
- ✔ Visiting on Tuesday → Check whether they're open beforehand
