Korean food near Jeju Airport: kimchi chicken stew at Deureomtong
In short
Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang is a Korean restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, specializing in pot-lid dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew). On the last day of a Jeju trip, after days of only Japanese and Western food, the writer ordered the pot-lid aged-kimchi dakdoritang for two at 36,000 won, and a staff member lit the drum stove and set a 10-minute timer so the kimchi could cook down further. The spice level sat between mild and medium and the portion was generous enough to leave leftovers, making Deureomtong an easy choice for both family meals and a late-night dinner.

Inside the restaurant and the seating

The interior was spacious with generous gaps between tables, so we could eat comfortably. They had the floor-to-ceiling doors wide open, giving it an outdoor-tent feel and keeping the place nice and breezy.

The tables were big and roomy enough that group customers were around too. Plenty of foreign customers come here as well, so if you're looking for Korean food near Jeju airport, it's a good fit for family meals or work dinners.
A drum stove at every table, plus the side-dish self-serve bar

First off, each table has its own big drum stove. As soon as we walked in, we couldn't stop looking at the other tables' drum pots out of curiosity. Later, other customers who came in were staring at our drum stove too, haha.

The side dishes were simple: dried radish strips, pickled peppers, napa cabbage kimchi, and macaroni salad.

You can always refill from the self-bar if you run low on side dishes! Ramyeon noodles cost extra though.
Pot-lid aged-kimchi dakdoritang for two, 36,000 won

Pot-lid aged-kimchi dakdoritang for two, ₩36,000. Staff brought it out pot and all. It might look a bit small in photos, but the pot itself is enormous. The two of us showed up starving and dug in like crazy, and there was still some left over.

The pot-lid aged-kimchi dakdoritang is made up of chicken, aged kimchi, quail eggs, tteokbokki rice cake, cheese rice cake, potato, green onion, and mushrooms.

Cooking on the drum stove with a 10-minute timer
Staff light the drum stove for you and set a 10-minute timer! Once it goes off, you can start eating right away. In between, they come by to cut the aged kimchi into bite-sized pieces for you.

That red, spicy-looking color already smelled like it couldn't possibly taste bad!
We wanted the kimchi to be thoroughly cooked, so we let it go 3-5 minutes longer than the 10 minutes, and it hit exactly the deep, savory flavor we love!
Finally, the fully cooked dakdoritang!! After eating Western food for days, Korean food tasted a hundred times better... Koreans really do run on rice!!!! We ate it declaring Korean food is the best. The meat was incredibly tender, haha.

My boyfriend especially said the aged kimchi was a stroke of genius and that it was so delicious! It was salty and the seasoning was so good it made you eat more rice.

There was regular rice cake and also nutty cheese rice cake, so it was nice to enjoy two different flavors! That nutty taste made the whole thing even more sweet-and-salty, haha.

The combination of the chicken and aged kimchi and the seasoning level were spot on, and the meat was so tender and chewy. Even my boyfriend, who's not usually a fan of dakdoritang, was inhaling it and said he'd happily come back next time we suggest dakdoritang, haha. Seeing him enjoy it so much made me proud!

How spicy is the aged-kimchi dakdoritang?
The spice level of the dakdoritang seasoning and aged kimchi leaned mild-to-medium. Think of it as a natural, mild tingle on the lips rather than any real heat. The reduced sauce was also great mixed with rice. My boyfriend polished off two bowls of rice 🫢 — it was a total rice thief!

Is Deureomtong worth a visit? Final verdict
The taste and value for money were both great, and the portion was generous enough that we ate our fill and were satisfied. The hours are long enough that I'd also recommend it as a late-night option! The staff were also all so friendly and efficient, making it an easy, comfortable place to eat.
