Family Korean BBQ in Dalseo, Daegu with self-bar pork skin: Baeksanu

My kid is 8, so I still tend to look for restaurants with a playroom haha😅 If there's no playroom she reaches for a phone in no time! So this time I went to a BBQ restaurant with a playroom — Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch!

Honestly I only went for the playroom, so I wasn't expecting much from the food, but the meat was seriously so good 🫢 My kid had a blast playing and we ate really well too, so it was a satisfying spot for a family meal or a get-together! Let's get into the detailed review.

It's located on Joam-ro in Wolseong-dong, and it's easy to find with navigation!

Even from the outside it looked pretty big, and there were already a lot of people waiting at the entrance before we even went in! The place was clearly buzzing more than anywhere else nearby — that's the smell of a good restaurant 😋

Since it's a popular spot, there was even a separate waiting area outside haha. There was a menu board at the entrance too, so you can check the menu before going in 😆

A BBQ restaurant with a playroom — what's the interior like?

I was surprised by the size as soon as we walked in lol, and the playroom on the right caught my eye right away haha. The kids went straight to the playroom lol — I wonder when the day comes she won't want to go anymore 😂😂

Even with this many people, the space was so big with such high ceilings that it never felt cramped! It seemed like a great spot not just for family meals, but for work dinners and all kinds of gatherings too 👍

Luckily there was an empty table further inside, so we managed to get a seat! By the time we left, there wasn't a single empty seat left — you can imagine how popular this place is 🫢

The interior has a nice vibe too, right? 🤩 This kind of rough, unpolished aesthetic is rare these days so it felt refreshing haha. Plus it's an open kitchen, so you can see the meat being prepped, which somehow made me trust the place even more haha 👏👏

Unlimited pork skin at the self-bar

There's a self-bar so you can grab whatever's running low whenever you need it — super convenient!

The self-bar has everything neatly laid out, from side dishes to sauces to wrap vegetables ~ but the thing that really caught my eye was the pork skin! 🫢 Pork skin that you'd normally pay for, unlimited?? A place that does well really is different in some way 👍

Baeksanu Sutbul menu and prices

The signature menu at ₩44,000 for 1kg, jinjja dwaeji galbi ("real pork rib"), is the standout dish! Insane value for money that lets the whole family eat generously without breaking the bank 👏👏 I was already satisfied just seeing the price before even tasting it, and I understood why the place was so packed 😌

Our main goal was actually the jinjja dwaeji galbi, but we wanted some unmarinated meat too, so we ordered the bakpo saeng galbi (unmarinated fresh pork rib) first! Talk about pork appetite lol. We ate the unmarinated rib first, then moved on to the jinjja dwaeji galbi, and finished it off ordering yukhoe as a side dish lol. You can already tell how much we enjoyed it 😆

The basic side dishes were served simply! We grabbed the wrap vegetables from the self-bar ~ and the lettuce jaeraegi (young radish kimchi) among the sides was so good I kept picking at it before the meat even arrived lol 😋

Next the charcoal came out, and the pieces were nice and chunky, in great condition 🔥👍 The fire really affects the flavor of the meat too, so I was pleased!

How was the bakpo saeng galbi (600g)?

Tada! The bakpo saeng galbi arrived! 🤩 The color of the meat looked amazing, and the ratio of lean meat to fat looked perfect just by eye ㅠㅠ

While the meat cooked, we cracked open some draft beer lol — skipping beer on a day like this would be a crime 🍻

Can you see the tongs working overtime lol? They grill it golden brown and cut it into bite-sized pieces for you ✂️ ✔️ You need to grill the meat yourself here.

Taking a bite of the bakpo saeng galbi, the juices were still moist and there was a rich, savory meaty flavor! Since it's unmarinated, you can really taste the clean, savory flavor of the meat itself, and the texture was tender, not chewy at all 🤩

We enjoyed it wrapped in lettuce, dipped in salt, dipped in fermented shrimp sauce — all kinds of ways! However you eat it, it's so good ㅠㅠ And once you're almost done, you've gotta pick the meat off the bone too 😋

While waiting for the marinated galbi, we filled the gap with pork skin lol. They brought out the soybean powder that's essential with pork skin too, and we ate it right 😆 The chewy texture with the savory soybean powder combo needs no explanation haha.

The signature jinjja dwaeji galbi (1kg)

The jinjja dwaeji galbi we ordered arrived! Proper stuff — a different perforated grill pan from the one used for the unmarinated ribs 👍

Even though it's marinated meat, the quality was so good it still felt fresh 🤩 The marinade wasn't just heavy on sweetness either — there was a subtle savoriness that made the balance amazing! And with the charcoal aroma on top, it's just no words 😆

You absolutely have to try the jinjja dwaeji galbi! Best pork galbi of my life, everyone lol please 🥲 It was so freaking good I savored every last piece!

Wrapping up with doenjang ramyeon and yukhoe

To finish our meal, we ordered ramyeon in doenjang (soybean paste broth)! One spoonful of the spicy doenjang broth and my mouth felt refreshed 😌 We thought that would be the end of the meal.. but that was a fake-out, because we ordered yukhoe next lol

The yukhoe portion was pretty generous for the price too! Since they distribute the meat directly, the value for money is great across the board 👍

Popping the egg yolk and mixing it all together — how good does that sound? 😋 The yukhoe had that signature savory flavor and chewy texture, and it was clean with no gamey smell 👍 The seasoning wasn't overly sweet or strong either, with a subtle savoriness, so even though I was pretty full, I scraped the plate clean 😆

We finished with a sweet grape slush! It was such a truly satisfying meal 😆 Return visit chance: 58000%! My friends were super happy too, so we've already decided to hold our next gathering here lol

With a playroom for comfortable dining with kids, and both flavor and value that satisfied us fully, Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch is a great pick! The meat quality is excellent and grilling it over charcoal makes it even better, so I'd recommend it as a family dining spot 👍
