Hwangnidan-gil pie shop late-night 6-pie box: Gyeongju Tokyo Pie
In short
Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a pie bakery in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju, that bakes whole Korean Fuji apples into its pies instead of using apple jam. The display case was nearly empty at close to 4pm, but asking the owner still got a 6-pie gift set boxed up, and back at the guesthouse the pies kept their crisp apple bite and a gentle butter aroma. The sweetness is mild, which makes Gyeongju Tokyo Pie a Gyeongju dessert that works as a gift for parents too.

Why are there so many snacks in Hwangnidan-gil?!
You've got to eat the 10-won coin bread, then the Hwangnam bread, then Tartang, and now Tokyo Pie too...
This time we went to Tokyo Pie, a dessert spot in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju! This isn't your usual apple pie filled with apple jam — this is where you can taste apple pie with actual whole apples inside.
On top of that, they bake on a same-day-made, same-day-sold principle, twice a day at 11:30 and 14:30. So if you time your visit right, you can taste a freshly baked pie still warm, with that nutty, savory scent of real butter 🥰
Where is Gyeongju Tokyo Pie? A 3-minute walk from the main Hwangnidan-gil street
Gyeongju Tokyo Pie

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is located about a 3-minute walk from the main street of Hwangnidan-gil and about a 10-minute walk from the express bus terminal. Which means it's a great spot to pick up a Gyeongju dessert gift before catching your bus!👍🏻 It's also close to the Hwangnidan parking lot, so it's easy to stop by if you're driving around.

How can you resist this cross-section with a whole apple packed in — something you can only see here?!😱

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie menu and prices

All three are the same price.

Arriving at 4pm: can you still get a 6-pie gift set?
We were hoping to buy a 6-pie gift set, but by the time we arrived it was nearly 4pm and there were only a few pies left in the display case, so I figured a gift set was out of the question. Just in case, I asked the owner, and it turned out to be possible — thankfully we got it boxed up. And there were all kinds of events running too!

Events running at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie
- 🎂 Birthday event — 50% off one Tokyo Pie within 2 weeks before or after your birthday
- ⏱️ Timer event — stop the timer on the month's number to get one Tokyo Pie free
- 🧾 Receipt review event — get a free americano for a Naver receipt review
Once you add up all these events, there were quite a few perks too good to pass up haha

Gift set, packaged. Done.
How the 6-pie gift set is boxed and how long it keeps
The 6-pie gift set box is pretty too. It feels like a blend of Gyeongju and Japanese sensibilities coming together~~

Along with the box, they give you a booklet explaining each pie, how to store it, and how to eat it.

Refrigerated storage lasts up to 2 days, frozen storage up to 1 week! We ended up eating them the same day we packed them, as a late-night snack back at the guesthouse.

The individually wrapped packaging made them easy to eat one at a time, perfect for snacking back at the guesthouse.

Whole apple inside: how the pie differs from an apple jam pie
Cut it in half to check the cross-section!!! Whoa... there's really a whole apple inside!

They use 100% Korean-grown Fuji apples, aged for a period of time to deepen the apple's natural sweetness and tartness — and maybe that's why, instead of the soft, mushy feel of apple jam, you get exactly what the photo shows: a crisp apple texture that stays intact when you bite in.

The crisp apple texture was great, but the crumbly pastry with its gentle hint of butter was just as good. The pastry itself is so good I feel like it'd be tasty even without the apple inside? 🥹✨ Since the pie was this good, now I'm super curious about the red bean and chocolate ones I haven't tried yet...
Apple pies made with apple jam usually tend to be pretty sweet, but Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is on the less-sweet side, so it felt less like eating a sugary snack and more like having a slightly more upscale dessert.

Is Gyeongju Tokyo Pie a good gift to bring home from Gyeongju?
Since it's not overly sweet, it pairs well with coffee and even works as a light breakfast substitute. Most of all, because it's not too sweet and feels a bit upscale, I thought it'd make a great Gyeongju travel gift for parents!
Besides the 6-pack, a 9-pack gift set is also available, and the packaging is done nicely, so if you're looking for a slightly different snack gift beyond the usual Hwangnam bread or barley bread in Gyeongju, I'd recommend Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, a dessert spot in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju! I bet it'd taste even better warmed up in an air fryer❣️
