Storing and air-frying pies from Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, a Gyeongju bakery
In short
Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a takeout-only bakery on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju, where a Japanese pâtissier bakes whole-apple pies. I bought the 3-flavor premium set of 6 for 27,000 won and reheated one the next morning in an air fryer at 180°C for 5 minutes, and it tasted almost the same as freshly bought. Rather than eating the pies at room temperature, give them that 5-minute reheat.

A gift dessert from Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju — apple pie made with a whole apple, from Gyeongju Tokyo Pie.

Hi everyone, it's Isotteok! Picking up a little gift for family on the way home from a trip is half the fun. While hunting for a special dessert gift, I found out there's an apple pie shop in Hwangnidan-gil run by a Japanese pâtissier who bakes everything by hand. It shows up in basically every Hwangnidan-gil gift recommendation post~
Where is Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, and where do you park?
Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is an apple pie specialty shop on Poseok-ro 1095beon-gil in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju, about a 5-minute walk from Daereungwon. It's around 7 minutes from Cheonmachong, so it's an easy stop while wandering Hwangnidan-gil.

It's a single-story building so there's no dedicated parking lot 🥹 There's a paid public parking lot nearby in Hwangnidan-gil, about a 1-2 minute walk — good to know!

There's no seating inside — it's strictly takeout. You order and pick up at the counter; the line isn't long, but hands are constantly reaching in and out.

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie prices and gift set options
A single apple pie is ₩4,500, and gift sets run ₩26,500 for 6 or ₩39,900 for 9. The 3-flavor premium set is ₩27,000 for 6 or ₩40,500 for 9. After some deliberation I went with the premium mixed set. If it's your first visit, the apple pie isn't optional — it's mandatory!

The window sign said 100% fresh domestic Fuji apples — a variety that's evenly sweet, low in acidity, and firm enough that it doesn't go mushy.

What time do the pies come out, and how does the birthday discount work?
The Hwangnidan-gil gift pies come out twice a day: 11:30am and 2:30pm. Two separate bakes.

Looking through reviews, I saw someone who showed up around 12:30 and had to come back later empty-handed. If you're making a special trip for Hwangnidan-gil dessert, it's safer to time your visit to one of those two batches! Also worth noting — there's an event where visiting within 2 weeks of your birthday gets you 50% off one pie 😎

What does the Gyeongju Tokyo Pie gift box look like?
You don't need to ask for gift packaging separately — buying a set gets you this exact presentation. Hard to think of a better Hwangnidan-gil gift option!

Each pie is individually wrapped in parchment paper, so they're easy to pick up by hand. You can even see the texture on the surface through the photo — 6 pies packed in without a single gap.

The red bean pie has a hint of red bean peeking out from the side, so you can tell which is which without flipping them over. The bake looked deep enough that the crust would definitely be crisp.
How to store Gyeongju Tokyo Pie and reheat it in an air fryer

Opening the box, there's a leaflet inside explaining all 3 pie flavors. It says the apple pie uses whole apple instead of jam, the red bean pie uses domestic red bean paste, and the chocolate pie uses European chocolate. There's also a mention of natural butter.

How to store and eat Gyeongju Tokyo Pie!
- Storage: refrigerate up to 2 days / freeze up to 1 week
- Reheating: for refrigerated pies, air fryer at 180°C for 5 minutes
- For frozen pies, half-thaw then 180°C for 7-10 minutes
- If the surface looks like it's about to burn, just cover it with foil!

It's whole apple chunks inside, not jam! The pastry has so many layers that it crumbles when you tear it by hand. The sweetness isn't overpowering, so it's a great gift for parents too. I reheated mine the next morning exactly this way, and it barely differed from fresh. I'd recommend spending the 5 minutes rather than just eating it at room temperature!! If you're giving these as a gift, pass along these instructions too — the recipient will enjoy it so much more :)
