Daegu stone-grilled rib restaurant with unlimited ssam: Banwoldang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant serving stone-grilled ribs and ssambap (rice with wrap vegetables) in an alley off Gwandeokjeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu. On a weekend evening a group of friends ordered 3 servings of the buja stone-grilled ribs and wrapped bite after bite with self-serve lettuce and bean sprout side dishes, alongside a doenjang stew that tastes like homemade soybean paste and freshly cooked rice. Packed with older regulars and big groups, Banwoldang Bujasikdang delivered on both portion size and homestyle cooking.

Where is Banwoldang Bujasikdang, and where do you park?

Banwoldang Bujasikdang (반월당부자식당) is a Korean restaurant at 13-13 Gwandeokjeong-gil, 1F, Jung-gu, Daegu. Hours are 11:00–20:45, with a break from 15:30–17:00, last orders at 14:45 and 20:00, and closed every Sunday.

I'd been craving Korean food since yesterday. Couldn't sleep at dawn, starving…. Told myself I'd eat Korean food when I met my friends today. Barely fell asleep clutching my growling stomach, and finally the day came. Presenting~ ✨️Banwoldang Bujasikdang✨️

It's tucked in an alley, but you can fit about 3 cars in front. Grab a spot fast and you've hit the jackpot! By the way, the Suseong branch, about 10–15 minutes away by car, apparently has easier parking, in case that helps.

Weekend evening at Banwoldang Bujasikdang: packed with groups and older regulars

I visited Banwoldang Bujasikdang on a weekend evening. Packed, right? Lots of group diners, elderly folks, and families out for a meal. When we arrived, a group of about a dozen or so police officers were just finishing up and heading out.

A go-to spot for guys' night out, and a diner beloved by people my parents' age. What does that tell you? This is a certified local favorite that puts the Blue Ribbon guide to shame.

Ordering 3 servings of buja stone-grilled ribs: rice costs extra, doenjang stew is included

Menu time — I wanted to try one of the red spicy dishes too, but since everyone around us was ordering it, I went with the buja stone-grilled ribs (3 servings). Rice is ordered separately, doenjang stew comes included, so double-check you're not missing or duplicating anything when you order.

Shouting for the waitress across a packed dining room is a hassle, right? Not here. The kiosk at every table saves our vocal cords.

Point your finger at the wet wipes and give your hands a good wipe before eating. Why? Because you're about to wrap some seriously satisfying ssam 😁

Sophisticated folks cleanse the palate with non-alcoholic beer. First time trying it and it's amazing. Tastes like a soda or a highball!! What I loved especially was how ice-cold the beer was. Beer should always be cold, and this place clearly knows the basics.

Side dishes and the self-serve ssam vegetable bar

The side dishes at Banwoldang Bujasikdang arrive in a flash: bean sprouts, julienned radish, salad, onion soy sauce, and seaweed stem. My favorites here are the bean sprouts and radish. The chef's hand really shows — the kind of flavor that keeps pulling you back!

Lettuce, peppers, and ssamjang (wrap sauce) are self-serve. Guess the 'rich' (buja) in the restaurant's name partly comes from environmental fees. We don't have a hundred million won lying around, so we devoured every last leaf of wrap veggies.

Doenjang stew with homemade soybean paste flavor, plus freshly cooked rice

Bring your wrap veggies to the table and the rice and doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) arrive. Sob… it's so good it makes me tear up… They must be using homemade doenjang. Not the usual doenjang stew flavor you get at regular restaurants — savory, somewhere between cheonggukjang and doenjang stew!! And you know that distinct aroma of freshly cooked rice!! It's sweet enough to eat on its own.

How much food is 3 servings of stone-grilled ribs?

And then the main event arrived. The portion is massive. In an era where portion sizes keep shrinking, this place is honest-to-goodness 3 servings by adult male standards.

The meat pieces are big and chunky, with green onions and onions on the side for varied wraps, and the seasoning works perfectly whether over rice or wrapped with the meat. Boss, may you get even richer. Some of the bigger pieces are a bit much for us — we'll just cut them up ourselves 🤪

And so it began. Endless wrap-eating. Lettuce, meat, ssamjang, rice, pepper + bean sprouts. We wrapped nonstop, no breaks. Multiple trips back for more lettuce… A flavor strong enough to overcome the fear of owing a hundred million won.

We cleaned our plates. We say we're full, but our hands keep wrapping anyway — that's the magic of these ribs. You should all go check it out. Highly, highly recommended 👍
