Jecheon Chinese restaurant with chilled jjamppong: Nangman Jjajang
In short
Nangman Jjajang is a local Chinese restaurant on a hillside street off Uirim-daero in Jecheon, Chungbuk. On a weekday evening there was no wait, and the order was tray jjajang (for two), chilled jjamppong (cold spicy seafood noodles) and tenderloin cream tangsuyuk (for two) — the cream tangsuyuk stayed crisp to the last piece even with the sauce poured over, and the chilled jjamppong came with white wood ear mushroom and squid. Spicy tray jjajang with cream tangsuyuk on the side is the combination to order at Nangman Jjajang, and all three dishes were finished clean.

Today I'm bringing a review of Nangman Jjajang, a jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) spot that locals in Jecheon keep coming back to! From the signature cream tangsuyuk to the seafood-packed tray jjajang and the summer specialty cold jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), I've packed in an honest review of it all. Stick with me to the end~

Where is Nangman Jjajang, and is there parking?
🅿️ Parking & location
Parking: There's a space set up right in front of the restaurant, so it's convenient to drive there.
Location tip: If you're walking over, keep in mind you'll have to climb a slight hill!

Weekday evening visit to skip the lunch wait
⏰ Visit in the evening to avoid the lunch waiting line!
Nangman Jjajang is such a well-known Jecheon restaurant that there's usually a wait at lunchtime. I went on a weekday evening instead and was able to walk right in with no wait! If you want to eat at a relaxed pace, I'd definitely recommend an evening visit.

Inside Nangman Jjajang and the self-serve corner
Walking in, the tables were spaced generously apart, so I could sit and eat really comfortably.

The basic side dishes (like pickled radish) were neatly brought out by a staff member at the start, and any extra sides or utensils you need are self-serve — you help yourself to as much as you want, which made things convenient.

The owner's philosophy on flavor was posted on the wall! You could really feel the care going into the food 🐹 And maybe that's why — a Jecheon-certified restaurant mark and a representative Uirimji restaurant mark were displayed at the entrance! Along with a 2024 1-Star Restaurant certificate! It's a place worth seeking out, one that locals keep coming back to :)
The three dishes ordered at Nangman Jjajang
Here's what we ordered—!
- Tray jjajang (for two)
- Cold jjamppong
- Sirloin cream tangsuyuk (for two)

Tray jjajang: spicy noodles with chunks of seafood
Slightly spicy, so you keep reaching for more — a flavor you'll want to come back for! Packed generously with squid and other seafood, this tray jjajang had a real satisfying chew to it. A flavor I'd order again without hesitation on my next visit!

Tenderloin cream tangsuyuk: crisp even with the sauce poured on
Crispy to the last bite even though it's served with the sauce already poured on! A perfect match with jjajangmyeon. This is Nangman Jjajang's signature and most famous dish, the cream tangsuyuk. Even though the sauce is poured over it right away, it never went soggy — it stayed crispy the whole time! One of my absolute favorite dishes 😋
Given the nature of cream sauce, it can start to feel a bit rich after a while, and that's when a bite of the spicy tray jjajang comes in perfectly. You really have to try this combo! 👍🏻 (jjajang + cream tangsuyuk = 😇🪽)

Chilled jjamppong: white wood ear mushroom in a sharp, cold broth
We also ordered the cold jjamppong, perfect for summer. It came loaded with white wood ear mushroom for texture and chewy squid 🦑, and the broth was cool yet sharply spicy, clearing the palate completely.

Is Nangman Jjajang worth it? Three empty bowls
💯 All three dishes were a hit! Cleaned every bowl. The spicy tray jjajang, the savory crispy cream tangsuyuk, and the cool cold jjamppong balanced each other out so well that we finished everything down to the last bite!

A sunset spot and a jjajang spot, Nangman Jjajang 🖤 If you're looking for a good restaurant in Jecheon, visit Nangman Jjajang and be sure to try the cream tangsuyuk + tray jjajang combo!
